Offseason

Created by: BatVader
Team: 2022-23 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 7, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I’m of the mind we need to build for next season and a fresh run. This team needs a culture change and a retool and that’s the point of this…. Continued from TDL Moves Regardless, https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/edit/2980687

Severson, Toffoli, and Appleton trades are just reviews of TDL trades from the previous post and to get proper players in place on roster. Re-sign values of those players are 1 yr off last season cap just for trade reasons.

I bought out Wheeler to show worst case scenario for his cap hit.

I put the 3-way Scheif trade as I’d love to do this, but I’m not sure about values here.
Boeser is the exact type of player the Jets need.

Even with the youth in place of some talented vets, this team has a very good chance at a playoff run, and has cap room to make additions if required due to injury or need..ie; mid-bottom pairing LHD if Stanley or Heinola stumble

Although Im not totally against that trade for him, the Rangers really want to resign Strome and Im not sure we can have both of them.

Canucks accept that. I'd assume NJD does as well.

This ones creative I like it!

What does a Canes trade for Scheifele look like? Necas included and bridged to maximize cap savings for the Jets.

Yeah, I don’t think that’s a good deal for the Jets.

Don’t mind the idea or concept, but this looks pretty lateral move for me. The scheifele trade needs to be a overpay, and the adds need to be younger, to add to the young window or ehlers/Dubois/Connor, need some team control in what is coming back so they can be longtermed or dealt again. Interesting none the less though. Need to shine up scheifele/Dillon/Schmidt and sell high or hold onto. Would be nice to add some size if the plan is heinola/pionk/morrissey going forward. Don’t believe stanley will get beyond a 3rd pairing and samberg probably only cracks second pairing, so severson add would be important going forward. Sask boy probably would stick around.

Can always take the Toffoli trade out and sign Rakell in the offseason. Just means we have to trade Dillon separately because he would be blocking Heinola

Are you willing to move Pesce?
Yes…something like Pesce + Jarvis
No… something like Necas + Drury + 1st

Boeser is 24 and Woo is 21
We replace a top 6 C (which we might be able to do with Perfetti coming up) with a top 6 RW (which we really need), we get a RHD prospect who’s almost ready to take DeMelos place, and we get a pick.
Scheif is the obvious move to me. He has the value to fix our RW issues, in a couple years he will be asking for a raise which we might not be able to afford, and it’s the culture change this team needs.
As I said in the OP, I’m not sure about the values on the Scheif 3-Way… but I think it’s close.
What we are getting from NYR in an NHL ready C/LW, a very good rookie RHD, a 1st, and RW Kratsov is a good return for Scheif…. It’s what we send for Boeser that I’m iffy on.
VAN needs RD so Lundkvist must be included. I’m assuming they’d like an RW in return to help offset losing one, so Kratsov is going. The issue is the pick and Chytil.
Boeser is a young Phil Kessel style player and he would be dynamite on the RW with PLD and Connor. I like Woo as he gives us depth on our RD, which we are sorely lacking. The pick is the issue here as well.
I, personally, don’t see this as lateral… it’s strengthening a position of weakness with a damn good player.
Put Perfetti between Ehlers and Toffoli or Rakell, and our top 6 is set

What are some Copp and Schiefele trade destinations. I think one of them should be traded at the deadline and maybe we can start a retool.

I’m not sure why they would want to give him up? He’s got 2.5 years left on a decent contract for Brock who could just sign the QO and walk to FA. You’d be better off keeping your #1 centre and riding it out.
