There is no reason for the isles to make that trade

You ruined your pitch to Ottawa once you added Kassian.

Try again.

the Isles have the fewest goals in the entire league and have an incredibly mediocre PP. the trade gives them one of the leagues top offensive defenders (despite what the big brains on here say)

to be fair the team would still be under the cap of i didn’t include Kass. i just wanted to see if i could get away with including money going back in the trade

the power play’s been getting better as of late with dobson running it, and barrie would end up benched by trotz every night due to his terrible defensive play. barrie doesn’t fit the system, trotz would hate him

Barrie isn’t even close one of the top offensive defenders. He is terrible. The isles powerplay has been operating at 30% since the isles put Wahlstrom, barzal, and Dobson on the same unit

that’s fair, i didn’t even think about system and that you can’t just place Tyson Barrie on any team for him to succeed. i was looking at just pure numbers and (granted it’s a different team & system) Barrie would be second on the isles in points, and after Dobson the second highest scoring defender has 5 points

throughout his career, Barrie is 0.64ppg which is pretty darn good for somebody you describe as a “terrible offensive defender”

Well, you didn't get away with anything.

I know a bad trade for Ottawa when I see one.

Try again.

Right now he’s a terrible offensive defenseman. It doesn’t matter what he’s done in the past. He’s already 30 and he’s clearly declined.

Nick Holden is a good vet, he probably has 3rd round pick value

So Bourgault + 2nd is good for Brown + Holden

I actually prefer it over 1st + Lavoie

That’s what happens when you have a lot of ice time with two of the top offensive forwards in the world. Lots of secondary assists

how do you explain him consistently putting up solid numbers his entire career if he’s only played in edmonton for 1.5 seasons

Barrie used to be a high end offensive defenseman - if you look at his underlying numbers since he joined Edmonton , he has been a passenger which is why points don’t tell the whole story.

Barrie has been one of the worst even strength defenseman in the league this season.

yeah he's decent in the right role but he's just not a fit with the islanders. they def need more offense from the back end but i just don't think barrie's the guy, he's a complete liability defensively

True but trading beauvillier doesnt help. He hasnt put up the points production but hes constantly creating chances and for a team that not just struggles to score but struggles to create chances thats valuable. Its also not good value for 2 good players on 2 good contracts.
