He’s not worth much at this point in a trade maybe Buffalo takes his contract cause of how thin the free agent pool is and how badly they need a goalie

Isles are not trading for Holl and definitely not giving up a 3rd for him.

I wouldn’t be so quick to compare a prospect to one of the best defensemen in the league. I wouldn’t compare prospects at all, it puts too much pressure on them to get to that level.

Topi Niemela will be the one and only Topi Niemela, how he develops depends on him. I see a good young RHD in him for the future, but he’s got to prove himself first.

He’s a wizard making grown men look foolish if he starts the year in the minors he will light it up and they will have no choice but to call him up

Just like Sanderson is the next Bobby Orr gonna carry the sens out of the basement and into the promise land. Sens fans have Sanderson stapled in as a top 4 dman next year Niemela is the same age and just as good both will be elite

Yes. Sanderson will be the guy deployed to shutdown the top players. He rarely gets beat and then he’ll break up the play and push the puck in transition.

Ritchie buyout has a $1mill + recapture next year though, which on this team is a non-option

But love Topi, very happy the leafs picked him

Hey you're the one placing unrealistic expectations on prospects that have yet to play a game in North America, not me. Shipachyov's been the best player in the KHL for at least 3 or 4 years now and lasted all of 3 games with Vegas, who have had exactly one good centre play for them since they became a franchise. And the KHL is a better league than the Liiga. Not all European success translates directly into European success.

That’s against college players tho he’s very good and has a good chance to do that I think if given the chance Niemela would do the same he’s proven that is liiga thos year and at the u20s

Topi can score pts but we’ll see if he can defend at the NHL level.

He was drafted as a defensive d man tho he had 4 assist in his draft year and is praised for his play in his own zone read any scouting report

I am hoping for a Samuel Girard(5'11 170) comparable for Niemelä(5'11 165). Both don't have the greatest north south speed you'd like from a Dman but are very intellingent players both on offense and defense.

    Edit:
He also just signed a deal to stay with Karpat next year. Still believe he will sign his ELC this summer but he will either make the Leafs out of camp or go back to SM-liiga, he won't be playing for the Marlies next year

Shouldn’t he need to prove that at the nhl level first just like you say Niemela does ?

Sure but one was a top 5 pick and the other went in the 2nd round. They both need to prove it but one comes with more hype

Draft order is irrelevant now the play since the draft is what matters. We can agree to disagree. I think both will be elite but I’m arguing Niemela is on the same level as Sanderson

Don’t agree whatsoever . Sanderson will be playing 25+ mins a night and will be a #1D. I think he will be better than Chabot. I don’t think Niemela is at that level

Maybe man but Niemela was better at every international tournament and has been playing pro while Sanderson has been playing college

Sanderson was the best player for the US last year and the reason they shutdown Canada in the final. He’s also dominating college and way over a PPG while playing on a team that lost a ton of offensive talent

I’m not saying Sanderson isn’t great im saying Niemela is just as good d-man of the tournament at just 18 and has 24pts in 30 games in liiga which is a much better league than college these are pros. And Is playing against the other teams best players who do this for a living. Sanderson is playing against student athletes

Yeah but Sanderson when he got drafted his only knock was his offence and he’s shown now how good he is offensively. If he had a year like this when he got drafted , he would’ve went top 2 . He’s been NHL ready since last year according to many GMs, coaches and scouts
