That would be an interesting trade for the Leafs to make. It would basically be a commitment to move on from the big 4 in the offseason if they do it to make the cap work going forward.

I saw this offer from a Leafs post. I feel the Flyers would take the deal if the offer came over.

I've got to imagine they'd ask for more with the term remaining on that retention.

I could see the Flyers asking for the Leafs 2025 1st round pick.

What if the Flyers don't retain on Ellis, but instead they trade Martin Jones to the Leafs in the package and take back Mrazek. The Flyers will retain half on Jones too if that helps. Do that and the Flyers will acquire the 2025 Leafs 1st round pick to finish the deal.

The Leafs need the retention and quite frankly, no one wants Jones. That's why I said it would be a sign of them moving on from someone big in the offseason. Having a look at it, it probably means Muzzin would be on the trade block this summer to make the cap work going forward.

I'm not against paying a high price for Ellis btw, I just think the Flyers would get more than this for a 5 year retention. There aren't many comparables for retaining cap on that kind of term.

You don't need the retention on Ellis if you're losing $3.8 million in Mrazek who has played 3 games for the Leafs this year. Jones is a capable backup especially at $1 million. He's done well for the Flyers. I would move him to the Leafs because he has no long term plans here. The Flyers would be taking on cap from the Leafs ultimately to get a draft pick.

To sign their RFAs to great deals and give Campbell around 5 million, the Leafs need to drop about 8 million dollars in cap this summer thanks to Rielly's new deal kicking in. Adding Ellis' 4.75 just makes that all the more difficult. Again, I'm not against the idea. I just think it would interesting for the Leafs to do.

Don't think the Leafs would make that trade. Cap reasons for the future, maybe even this year. But Ellis now on LTIR and then you trade Holl. Leafs would probably much more interested in a UFA like Braun.

Flyers will take Holl in the deal too if the Leafs want to dump him.

That's just it. The Leafs don't want to dump him. (despite what you read on CF) He's plays 20 minutes a night, the PK on the one of the top teams. Just a 2m contract this year and next. Leafs are OK wih their top 7 Dmen, but certainly another would be great and likely needed for a long Cup run.

Fair enough. They should be easily able to move him over the summer if that becomes necessary.
