Khudobin hasn't played well at all he's a cap dump right now.

Oilers take that trade and run.

Maybe if you get Khudobin the the Oilers trade...

unless there is retention on Khudobin, tough to justify 3.3m on a subpar back up goalie
especially that holtby is only signing for 3.25m...why wouldn't teams just use that cap space on him and save the picks

Because, he won't be going anywhere else, unless it's Dallas or Washington, likes the warm weather and the team in Dallas, still has a home in DC area, so I don't think he wants to move again.. But I get your point, maybe the Stars retain what it would be to possibly buy out Khudobin...

if they retained 1m, then yeah I think there is a viable market for him as thats pretty standard back up cost of under 2.5m aav

Which in this scenario would be easily attainable for the Stars, while staying within the cap. As long as they don't retain more than $1.25m(what his buyout would be) they come out on top for sure!

If the deal occurred ahead of the draft, I'd be happy if the Oilers received the Star's 2022 2nd round pick and rights to negotiate with Holtby in exchange for Barrie.

They won't acquire Holtby's right, he'd be sticking in Dallas... It's there or Washington for him, don't see him going anywhere else, unless he was offered wayyyyyy tooo much money and wayyyy tooo much term...

Perhaps that is so, but there is no harm in Ken Holland pushing.

Ken Holland can push all he wants, Braden will not sign there, I know this for a fact, unless it was tooo much money and too much for term(and even then he'd feel awkward about the term being too long)...

If you know this to be fact then you're either Brayden Holtby or his agent, in which case I am very surprised to learn that you are passing time on a website like this. Joking aside, I can agree that it is improbable that Holtby would sign with the Oilers, if he has good options to play in cities he is familiar with and that benefit from lower tax regimes and softer climates. However, I doubt Washington will go out of their way to bring him back, and although I am confident that Dallas intends to try signing him I am aware that the NHL is a business, other teams have noticed his strong play this season, and nothing is ever certain.
