That doesn't really make any sense for Columbus. I doubt they're looking to move multiple high round picks and take on a huge contract and add to a position where they already have some solid depth.

That's the trouble with the trading of Marner.....It's an 11m contract. A team with cap isn't giving top prospects or picks to acquire him....they just sign UFA(s) and keep their picks. Good teams don't have cap so they would have to trade equal cap to the Leafs.
Muzzin doesn't waive. I'm sure the Leafs aren't trading a Liljegren. Another crazy 21 man roster with just six NHL Dmen.

If Columbus is making that trade you’d have to guess they would want the 1st to be top 5 protected, if they would just move the lower of the Chicago pick or their own pick in the 2022 draft, of whatever pick the get from a Laine trade as they would have to move Laine to afford Marner.

I say it this way...I really like Tavares and Marner...and their talent...but I hate how their cap hit added to Matthews has hamstrung the Leafs. Both are overpaid compared to other comparable players in the league. Matthews looks to be becoming more unstoppable but neither Marner nor Tavares looks that way.

To answer your questions as a Leaf fan....even if Marner isn't disappointing in the playoffs I would look to trade Marner and no Matthews does NOT need Marner on his wing.

Hawks don't want Mrazek. He's an overpaid backup and in the case of the Hawks would be considered a cap dump thus costing to move him to the Hawks. If you want Strome, cough up the Leafs late 2nd round pick.

Tavares has been good and I don’t think the issue with Mitch is his contract, but rather the role he plays is not effective for the team. He always demands to be the puck carrier & tries to draw opposing players to him in hopes to create an opening for teammates, but he doesn’t have the speed or strength to gain separation & always ends up getting picked off in traffic. If he improves his awareness off the puck he’d be a lot more dangerous, IDK if the player is unwilling to adapt or if the coach doesn’t know how to help him.

I think the contract hurts in the sense that his 11m takes up space that could fill out the rest of the lineup. For a 80-100 point player it’s crazy that he literally cannot score a powerplay goal on a top 5 powerplay in the league and when he’s not playing, the powerplay looks just as effective. I actually prefer Mitch (who is my fav player) playing with JT, when Mitch and AM are together every night they almost develop a tunnel vision for eachother and makes it easier to defend, I think that’s why when marner is out AM34 looks sooooo dominant.

Agree, I also think 34 & 16 are too predictable together. Mostly cuz Mitch always feels he needs to look for Auston & defer to him with a cross-scene pass. There’s not enough movement since he holds onto the puck for too long, it’s easy for opponents to pick them off. The PP has the same issue IMO. Since JT can just go to the net, 16 has more space to work along the perimeters & he can get into better spots to use his shot. It seems like an easy move to make but the coach is reluctant.
