Really basic trade idea without picks because I can’t really gauge what Turcotte’s value is. He hasn’t necessarily done anything special since being drafted but he’s still very valuable. LA is in a limbo state after not nessesarily rebuilding but instead retooling. They have a good team with great vets and young players coming up. Adding Gally would create a dominate even strength 2nd line in Arvidsson - Danault - Gally, similar to the Tatar Danault Gally Habs 1st line.

You might be right, but teams do the opposite of what we think they should all the time. A GM’s job doesn’t last forever, right now they are 3rd in their division with a ton of money coming off the books. Do they want to keep trading off players and contend in 6 years from now when that GM probably doesn’t have a job anymore or do they look at their current roster and try to improve it, trying to contend now while Doughty and Kopitar are still around? Theyll still be adding the young players they’ve already drafted to the roster over the next couple seasons which will be cheap depth scoring. I would personally continue to rebuild but that’s easy for me to say considering I am a fan who will be watching the team for the rest of my life, GM’s don’t have jobs forever and they want to win as soon as possible most of the time.

Gonna be honest, I think MTL has to add picks or retain some $$ to make this deal work. 5 more years of Gally at 6.5 is tough to swallow. He's a heart and soul guy, but that money is better spent elsewhere. if MT covers 1.5 per year, I think that's where he should be. Turcotte is going to be good, and would be a great fit in MTL. Gally will basically be Dustin Brown 2.0. Not a bad thing, just too much $$ to put into a guy like that.

Well you would definitely hope he’s Dustin Brown 2.0. LA has loved that guy his whole career and I doubt they’ve ever once regretted that deal. He’s 37 now, that’s a long career. Shoot I mean Brown has only scored 30 goals once in his career and has never been on pace for above that in any other season. Gally did that twice by the time he was 27 and on pace for 30 (shortened seasons) another two times. Obviously Brown makes up for that in other ways though. There was a weird 3 year stretch in his career though where he produced roughly 27 points each of those season which is odd considering he has produced much better in every season since. Maybe they were a really bad team during that stretch? Not sure. Maybe Habs would retain some salary though.

Not a ton, but 1 -1.5 a year would clear a ton of cap for them. Fans will be pissed cause they love him, but I think that would work for both teams.

And if not I think Habs would settle for a lesser prospect and a 2nd or something.

Honestly, I don't think they should. Get the high end guy, they need it. It's only a small amount agaist the cap. they need a lot of young cheap talent for the next few years.
