hes a great player, easily a top 5 winger in the league. but his contract is atrocious. no team can afford adding 10.5 for the next 4 years esp the way this pandemic will change HRR and the cap.

I dont want to trade Marner, I love the guy. He's the only Leaf whos jersey I own. I just wanted to see all of these wise guys who cry "trade Marner" actually lay out the ground work for a trade instead of just blindly following what everyone else says

The idea of combining an elite play-maker with an elite sniper on the first line seems pretty good to me, and I wouldn't want to change it.

But let's assume Marner asked for a trade himself, for whatever reason.

The only two scenarios that seem acceptable to me:
- Swapping him for another high-WAR player of similar impact and similar age, supposing that other player also wants to leave their current team (a Rantanen/Panarin/Kucherov type of player, could also be a different position);
- Dubas can sign a high-WAR player as UFA, of equivalent impact to the team (e.g. MacKinnon or Huberdeau want to change team and sign with us after next year), and Marner is traded for a package with futures.

Either scenario seems unlikely, though not impossible.

I don't think I'd be interested in other kinds of trades, as we would end up on the losing side.

Another superstar

Like the only way Toronto would not lose a Marner trade is if he was traded for another superstar

People say package for A, B, and C but what we got to understand any trade involving marner means taking on salary. So a cap dump may happen along with the other assets
