They have played better without him but that return is Horrible. Marner still has near to max value. Something like an Eichel kind of trade. If it’s from Columbus it’s probably: Sillinger, Textier, 1st and 2nd.

Oh Mr. Dinkiee, how I’ve feared the next time I’d see a post from you.

And this is almost exactly what I expected.

Agreed...think the counter point to the OP's logic of "Leafs can either spend $10M on one player or get a combination of first round picks, a high end prospect, or roster players and use Marner's cap hit to sign players like Forsberg" is that the other side of the trade could also put themselves in the a similar situation..keep picks/prospects, use $10 mil to sign players like Forsberg (Maybe not Columbus, who has had trouble attracting/keeping high end players, but that's not my point).

I mean, as a Ducks fan, I'd absolutely love to add Marner, but I also know that we're not at the point where we should be giving away top-prospects/picks...Similar situation in Columbus if you were to go for fair value (IMO). That being said, yeah, if I'm Columbus I'd move Tex/10ish OA for Marner.

Agreed on both accounts, but Columbus *shouldn't* do that at this point of their re-tool.

And when Forsberg re-signs in Nashville?

Teams don't plan their future around other team's letting star players walk.

The only way Columbus makes a trade for Marner is if it’s a trade around Laine for Marner, that’s about the only way they can make it work financially. The other player is Voracek and I doubt Toronto fans would want him included in the trade and would probably call him a cap dump. In all honestly Columbus probably isn’t a landing spot for Marner with his cap hit and salary, they just can’t afford him.
