So are you saying Detroit would retain 50% salary on Kessel for a 7th round pick? LOL

Really don’t like these deals .
You moved out two 1sts and a 2nd for some Rentals, a backup goalie, and a bunch of fringe NHLers

Like that just makes no sense.

At the same time, we aren’t signing Kane to a multi year deal. If he works out here, he’ll get a chance to raise his AAV with a few teams potentially interested. Not worth a long term risk IMO

I think he wants Wings to retain 25% which is 1.7 million. Even for that it will cost more than a 7th. Wings took on less for Tampa with Savard and got a 4th.

Agreed with pretty much all of that but the one aspect I’ve been trying to wrap my head around with Kane is what if it works? We all thought Barrie would just come here for one year boost stats on pp and go cash in. It worked and he landed term here what if Kane pots 20 goals in the final 48ish games remaining? Maybe Holland does give a second year just like he did with jp.

Yea if he plays at a 40 goal pace and is distraction free, maybe there are enough team interested to create a bidding war. IMO it’ll be 1-2 years and maybe the cap hit varies. And in that case, I think he would choose somewhere else to play. Kane choosing Edmonton this season is due to 1)limited teams showing interest and 2) of those few teams, being pretty much guaranteed a spot next to 97 or 29. The fit is there to produce offensively and given the tire fire the Oilers have been, it’s not really on him if things don’t turn around. There would be risk on his side choosing say Florida who is much deeper and then gets pushed down the lineup. And if a team like that all of a sudden diving in the standings for whatever reason, he’d be to blame.

I just think Edmonton is the perfect fit in all facets for him to show himself off, before signing elsewhere.

I personally would not give him more than 2 years under any circumstances.

But I do see your point as nobody thought Barrie would be returning either

Reason why in Kane’s case I actually would rather a two year deal is if I’m sticking my neck out and providing him not only a second or third or fifth chance whatever you may consider him to be on now I want a full season from him not just a brief appearance. In my opinion Edmonton offers him a lot more opportunity not just with the unreal talent he will certainly get paired with but if he’s looking to prove he can be part of a solution more than a problem letting him step in right now is all too perfect timing for him given the teams record over the past month. Realistically does Edmonton need Kane to snap out of it? Record to start the year suggests no but letting him be part of that is doing him a massive favour let him be seen as a contribution to it. I think for all we can and would provide him asking for one full year isn’t that much. 2 years at 2.5 million a year seems like a reasonable compromise in my opinion.
