You removed the retention. Chariot needs 50%, Toffoli 15%. Then LA does the deal

No they don't, Kings didn't even talk to Toffoli during the free agency and are not looking for rentals one year out of a rebuild. This trade has no chance of happening

This trade is if LA is in contention. When Toffoli was in UFA, LA was thinking full rebuild and looking at top draft picks for the next couple years. Chariot would be a good add to the Kings blueline with first shot at resigning him, and Toffoli is a value contract for the next few years. Most of what MTL has signed long term is garbage, but he's actually decent, and he has chemistry with the team.
With Kopitar and Danault signed for the next number of years, Byfield coming up, the top 2 center spots are spoken for. Why not fill other holes with a guy that will probably never get a top 6 look?

A top 4 D of Doughty and Roy, Chariot and Durzi sounds pretty good to me, and top 3 lines of:
Byfield - Kopitar - Toffoli
Kaliyev - Danault - Arvidsson
Iafallo - Vilardi / Thomas - Kempe

That's a pretty solid team IMO, with cap space avialable for moves

Even if the Kings win every single game until the trade deadline, Alex Turcotte is going nowhere. He and Byfield were key pieces to the rebuild, a player like Chychrun needs to be coming back if Turcotte is moved. The Kings are well aware how streaky Toffoli can be, he's currently on track to not even meet half of his goal total from last season. Chiarot is good but he's not worth a recently selected 5th overall pick. Come on dude.

Toffoli has been injured / covid and he's only 29 and signed for the next couple years. Chariot can be a defensive stud and help the young guys. I personally think Turcotte was a miss at #5. He should have gone at the 15-20 spot, but LA drafted based on C need. I've hated a lot of the Habs signings over the past couple years, but that was actually a good one.

Brendan Lemieux has more goals than Toffoli in fewer games. The Kings know exactly who Toffoli is, and have moved on from him. He would have signed for even cheaper with the Kings (his wife works in LA), the Kings moved on from him.

Chiarot is a rental, when is the last time a team just leaving a rebuild bought a rental with a recently obtained top-5 pick? There is zero chance something like this happens. Try this on the actual ACGM site, it will get ripped to shreds.

If you don't value Turcotte don't try to justify a bad return to get him.
