No thanks for the Kings unless there was a really friendly extension involved

The issue is neither fit nor price, but term. Fiala has arbitration rights and can force a one-year deal. This one would go right down to the wire. There is also the added variable of who's available at that draft spot; I think the Kings would have a strong urge to spend it on a high-quality LD prospect.

As a Buffalo fan, not sure about this deal, not exactly the kind of need we should be spending two second rounds on. Although I like Greenway as a player.

It is essentially 2 first rounders and a cap dump, who i believe actually would be ok in SJ, for a rental. That said, even i wonder if this is enough to outbid the other would be suitors.

well if it’s a 100% rental and we have a shot at Resigning him i’m all for this deal, if you guys have a chance at resigning him i balk.

What would you say would be a fair value for Fiala in a trade with the sharks? (without Hertl in the trade)

Edit: what about a trade with Hertl included? We wouldn’t do a 1-for-1, sorry.

At this price, the Sabres easily pass imo
1- we aren’t giving up that much for a bottom6 forward who doesn’t score
2- we have a bunch of young forwards coming, & not many open slots for more forwards unless they’re a significant upgrade on what we already have

If they just wanted a 3rd for him, then MAYBE
But i couldn’t see us giving up anything more for him that that
And that 3rd might even be too much

Fiala is still a RFA so 1 for 1 for Hertl is about all that works, but Evey then I'm not interested. Hertl being a rental, so it only makes sense to move futures or cap dumps. If adding to your team then it makes little sense to subtract at the same time.

It's about the same as what I think. I could consider trading 2nd VGK or PHI 2023 for him, but only if Adams trades Olofsson or Mitts first to improve the top 4 RD for example.

If this is solely a rental, this trade is not actually bad for San Jose. And given the incoming increase in dead cap from the Parise and Suter buyouts, it's plausible Hertl would just be a rental for Minnesota before signing elsewhere.

That said, if he's looking to re-sign with the Wild, there would have to be a revised trade proposal with additional draft picks or a prospect to sweeten the deal in order to make it a deal the Sharks can live with.
