Center Upgrades

Created by: Pikey_777
Team: 2021-22 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 11, 2022
Published: Jan. 14, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Playing with some ideas and I’m interested how the other teams fans see the trades
Trades
1.
SJS
  1. Backlund, Mikael
  2. Zary, Connor
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Not sure if this would cut it, but a Blue Chip Prospect and a 2nd is nothing for a potential rental
2.
MTL
  1. Monahan, Sean
  2. Poirier, Jérémie
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (FLA)
Additional Details:
Again, not sure if it’s enough. Poirier looks to be trending in the right direction, and the 2nd offsets the salary difference
3.
CGY
  1. Chychrun, Jakob
Additional Details:
This is wishful thinking, but would love to see him in Calgary
ARI
  1. Mackey, Connor
  2. Phillips, Matthew
  3. Zadorov, Nikita
  4. 2023 1st round pick (CGY)
  5. 2023 2nd round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Two very good prospects, who are close to NHL ready, plus bolsters draft picks for next year.

Blue chip and a 1st plus seems to be the asking, if not more. but would he be a rental or would Calgary try hard to resign him?

Has to be a 1st coming back for Hertl especially taking on a $5+ mil Backlund for multiple years. 1st, Backlund, Zary and a 3rd.

They would try and resign him, they are moving over $5 mil for multiple years with Backlunds contract coming to San Jose.

Flames center depth is not something they can trade their way out of and get an instant guaranteed upgrade. Last chance was Eichel but that was whiffed.

Chychrun trade is quite lopsided

For who Hertl? Do you have a source for that? Pending UFA's never return that

I didn't look deep into this deal,
this is not what the sharks would be looking for.
Backlund coming back to the sharks would be Neg value for the sharks.
Hertl would cost 2022 1st, 2023 2nd and Zary, then you would have to add another 1st to take on Backlunds deal.
probably not an ideal value for Calgary IMO.

Karlsson did, the report from the sharks is and I will quote Doug Wilson here "it would have to be something ridiculous for us to consider trading Hert"

Given Calgary is in a playoff hunt in our division, we'll need at least a 1st round pick and solid prospect in the mix to make it happen. Pelletier's game would be a better fit for the Sharks' organization than Zary. Thoughts on 2022 1st round, Pelletier, Backlund and conditional 2023 3rd round (activates if he re-signs for the Flames)?

Kevin Hayes is a** and he retuned a 1st+ so did Montour. Neither have the skills or statistics Hertl has. It was reported from the athletic months ago the ask was 1st, top prospect + for Hertl.

It would be foolish to let him go for a walk like UFA and get nothing. But then again, I don’t know the whole situation, maybe Hertl is not averse to re-signing with San Jose, especially since Kane is gone. Maybe Wilson is just bluffing. Is Hertl ready to sign an extension with a new team right away? The return will depend on different factors. But I could definitely see how even renting Hertl return 1st + good prospect (but maybe not a blue chip prospect). He is a great player.

LeBrun reporting Sharks are preparing to offer Hertl a contract so all these awful Hertl trades are likely going to be moot soon.

Can you link that quote? Also that quote doesn't justify your stated value at all.

Im not saying he wont get a 1st+ but he wont be returning a bluechip prospect from anyone. Pending UFA's at the deadline just don't carry that type of value

He has said multiple times San Jose is his home and he loves it here, sharks want to resign him and he wants to stay, Kane s gone in part because we want to keep Hertl.

Then it would be logical to re-sign him.

what to you is a Ridiculous offer for a rental top line C? 1st plus a blue chip prospect to me is close.
and with Eichel gone there is no wing or C even close to him that might be available, and supply and demand dictates sharks would get a better haul than normal.
combine that with the fact sharks are more than happy keeping him and resigning him and you have the chances to get a crazy bidding war for him.

that's the hope, that or offering to a team as a rental with full intention of resigning him in the offseason.

Thank you for all of the feedback on Hertl. I would be willing to increase the second to a first. And maybe include an additional 3rd if he resigns. But any more than that is a big reach

for Calgary yes but there will be other desperate teams that look at his production and past playoff performances and empty the bank to get him.
upgrade the 1st add the 3rd option and remove Backlund and your in the running for him most likely.

Giroux and Pavelski will both very likely be available. JT Miller is also reportedly getting a lot of calls about. Hertl isn't some unicorn this year my guy

You also still didn't link the quote or give me a source that says blue chip prospect

High profile =/= Blue chip prospect. Lets take NYR for example. They would probably have interest in Hertl. The return would probably be around Chytil and 1st. You might be able to convince them to move Nils but thats more because Schneider makes him expendable
