I'm not so sure I'm in agreement that these are true mistakes. Kampf was a UFA and Pius Suter wanted a big contract. In order to preserve the Euro pipeline the Hawks have...Bowman allowed him to go make life altering monet. Other Euro prospects will see this and keep that pipeline flowing.

they should have traded suter instead of not qualifying him. someone would have given up a pick for him, he played well last year.

Here's the catch 22 with that though. If you trade his rights, that just allows a different team to take him to arbitration. Suter won't like that AND agents/Euro prospects see that stuff. Then look at it from DETs pov. Why is Stevie Y going to give up an asset for someone he can have for free. I understand that CHI could have got a pick, but thats at the risk of the Euro pipeline continuing. The Hawks need that pipeline more than a minor pick imo.

The Hawks have The Best track record of Euro talent getting big deals over any other NHL organization.

Yep. Our european pipeline reputation is more important than a 3rd round pick

This isn't an actual trade, it's a discussion about the Hawks' mistake to not qualify Suter as an RFA (who could have replaced Strome).

It’s kinda funny seeing “reputation” and “Blackhawks” being used in a positive way these days. As for the hawks and euro pipeline, we may have a good record of getting them over here, but we also know how to waste them as well. The hawks are just a stepping stone for euro players, not a final destination of success and longevity.

You talk as if free assets on ELC contracts are bad. A good number of them get dealt for picks too.

It’s almost like we find euro players and only keep them for ELC and bridge contracts and should rather consider long term investments

We provided a lot of Euro's opportunities to come to the NHL and make life altering money. Sometimes those results in letting them go for free...Pius Suter/David Kampf. Sometimes that means trades...Kempny got a 3rd. Rutta got got 4k and a 5th. Gus is actually a Euro signing despite EDM drafting him. He stayed over in Europe until they lost his rights and he signed with the Hawks. BUT let's also keep in mind that a free Euro is not a wasted draft pick. It's legit NHL ice time. The vast majority of NHL draft picks are busts. Kempny Played 81 games, Rutta 80 games. Gus has 246 games with the Hawks. We can debate whether or not Kubalik fits this bill. Obviously Panarin, but the moment I say that name the conversation shifts away from all the success the Euro pipeline has had and goes to negative town.

It’s not not bad, just be nice if they actually had some foundation included in them. One to two years of them? I couldn’t give a rat’s ass. Especially when you don’t recoup any assets for like Suter. Kahun to a lesser extent. Even panarin was wasted, as was kampf. I’m just saying, I don’t care how good the hawks are at recruiting European players if they don’t manage make them part of the long term future OR trade them for decent assets. Hawks fans talk a lot about asset management. WE SUCK AT IT!

Oh yea, and has anyone’s value been tanked by a team more than kubalik? Even in spite of his getting his start under us, not a chance a team should give up a first for him. Also, the whole Gus situation is another reminder of poor asset management, he should have been traded when he was at 1st round pick level. Instead, we actually thought we were good enough for the playoffs and capitulated. Turns out, that would only the 2nd worst choice the hawks made in 2019, no?

I was surprised to see Suter go in the offseason, I was even more surprised with the money he got. With the TJ move, it put an end to any hopes of keeping Suter. Yes we did get a 2nd and tbh TJ when healthy can probably have similar point scoring outputs than Suter.

The revenge arc where he scored 2 important goals against his former team was pretty funny

Love Kampf rn especially for what he does on the PK and when he skates around in the DZone
