The condition doesn't make much sense in the Leafs deal. Why would the back up goalie be a big deal to them winning the cup? Its more likely to be a games played during the playoffs or something along those lines.

Beyond that, its basically a non-starter anyway. The Leafs can't hope to take on Varlomov's cap hit and keep Campbell. The entire idea of moving Mrazek is to make that cap space.

Cap space they need elsewhere as well. Try and make this trade from the Leafs perspective and see what else they lose next season to make it work, the hidden cost.

Let's say the cap goes up and Campbell gets 5 mil (cap isn't going to go up after arena restrictions were put in place and Campbell will get higher so this is all very much worse than I actually lay out). That leaves 6.7 mil for 7 players. First thing first is to re-sign RFAs, Kase Liljegren and Sandin. None of whom will be getting league minimum deals. Lets say 3 mil for Kase, 1.25 for Liljegren and 1.75 for Sandin (again these guys could very easily push for more outside of Liljegren so this is actually much worse again). The Leafs then have $769,384 left over to sign 4 players.

They can't afford to pay a backup goalie 3.75 million. You haven't done anything to solve that problem, just paid a fortune to switch the problem player. The only way this trade makes sense is if the Leafs are giving up on re-signing Campbell as their starter. At that point, why are they paying to move Mrazek? They'll still need a backup/tandem partner for Varlamov.
