Seems right but the Canes management philosophy isn’t spending a bunch on rentals.

That’s the third step of a soft rebuild. The first and second are to fire Nill and Bowness in that order in intervals of 1 second.

Value seems right but I don't see the need for Carolina to make this trade. Only thing they might "need" is a top 6 winger. Even that is a stretch tho.

Wayyy too much for a rental, CAR laughs at this. They’re all about value trades, not paying through the nose for rentals.

The most recent rental deal for a D (Savard) at the deadline that involved a 1st plus later picks to a third team to facilitate cap retention. So using that as a base, I’d expect a 1st, but not much else.

In the Canes case, they have to send $$$ out to bring anyone in, so Bear or another roster player must be included. Bear is a young (admittedly struggling) RD with a few years of team control, a valuable asset. No team is going to add the equivalent of two 1st round picks to a young roster D for 30 games of Klingberg.

You're comparing Savard to Klingberg?

Savard is 2 years older, had a similar cap hit and is significantly weaker than Klingberg and he still fetched at least a 1st.

And I only picked Carolina because they were mentioned a while back as being a team with interest. My deal is quite fair compared to what other players have gone for at the deadline in recent years. If you don't want him on your team that's fine but don't sit there and tell me that Klingberg is worth as much as David Savard.

Not fair at all when you look at what rentals generally return, but keep trying to convince yourself

It's fine if you want to be a homer and undervalue other team's players but just say you don't know how the trade deadline works and move on.

Please provide examples where a contending team has traded the equivalent of your ask for a rental….guess what, you won’t find any. I wouldn’t be so sure you have a complete understanding of how the “deadline works”
