I couldn’t do it in this client. But in this scenario the wings are also retaining half on Fleury’s contract. So it would be a pro rated 1.75m.

Chicago And Det get futures and Edmonton fixes its goaltending and 3C problem And gets capspace for Kane or that lhd.

Watching mcdrai potentially miss playoffs again is a crime. The oilers should be doing what the pens did - throw the farm at it every year until they’re gone. It’s too late to draft around them - players drafted next draft won’t be in the nhl for 2-3 years.

This is a pretty solid deal all around. Nice work.

If I'm DET, I see if I can get Broberg instead of the 2 prospects and the pick, but if they're unwilling to move him, this will do nicely as well. CHI is extremely happy with the first

Honestly a brutal trade Oilers get fleeced in this deal for a 37 year old goalie with a 1 year deal and a decent 3rd line forward for giving up 2 potential top 6 forwards, a first, a second and a back up goalie

Yes. By retaining on Namestnikov we get the two middle tier prospects. Would be worth 1 or like a 3rd/4th with no retention. The second was for taking koskinen/the fleury retention.

That’s a vezina goaltender they get for 1.75m against the cap this season, and a good 3rd liner who is also retained, while dumping 4.5m of dead contract. This is about making the team competitive for this season. Finally, the two prospects are not top six locks and at best have top six potential, fans tend to overvalue that.

One is in the WHL as an over ager and the other is in the ahl still at 21 and under 0.5ppg there. These are not blue chip prospects.

In this scenario, the oilers are saving 11m dollars in cap from dumps and retention (1m namestnikov, 5.5m fleury, 4.5m on koskinen) - that comes with cost. They come out the other side with 2 more million to fix lhd or more depth issues.

I don’t think they’re in a place to move blue chip prospects that are close to helping the team - but the ones included and the picks are still years from that, and therefore more tradeable.

I don’t see how you’d get a vezina goalie with retention for less then the first.

That Vezina goalie was traded for nothing and honestly was very mid every other season before last season always carried by a stacked team already looks bad with chicago with a -5.0 GSAX(Moneypuck) Carter Savoie is the in NCAA shows that you really know your specs and is over a ppg with 0.7 goals per game pace, in this scenario the oilers free up cap but have to pay an immense package for an overrated old goalie and an average third liner. Makes no sense for Edmonton to do this they can get a better goalie for a lot cheaper (for example) Varlamov

No need to get personal, I pulled up the wrong Savoie window. It happens.

Regardless, +1ppg in his second ncaa season is not “future top six”. He’s progressing well, but he more then likely still has another 2 years before going pro and is still just that, a prospect.

I don’t think say, Varlamov, is going to be significantly cheaper for you. Especially because he has a second year, which makes him (and any retention on him) cost more, esp when we take into account the dumping of koskinens atrocious contract as part of the exchange.

And yeah, fleury was dumped... because Vegas wanted 7m of capspace and, unlike the oilers, have a suitable goalie. He wasn’t dumped because he was bad.

Agree to disagree though

I never said future top 6 I said potential top 6 which is very true Savoie is playing great and definitely on pace for a top 6 player as of right now. I think the Oilers can definitely get Varlamov for Koskinen, 1st and a 3rd obviously they don’t retain but that’s a lot better value than Fleury who’s been decent every other year except last year in the past 4 years I wouldn’t take a bet on a goalie that’s 37 with a year left for that cost maybe like a 2nd and 3rd for Fleury retained 50% but even then I wouldn’t do that

Is it double retention for both?

Nah, Namestikov is fairly cheap so only needs 1. fleury isn’t so went with 2.

1.75m for fleury, 1m for namestnikov. Koskinen is 4.5m so the oilers actually gain ~2m in this trade for whatever else they want
