I see you took my comment to heart. We all know Larkin will never get traded but I personally like this deal. Other fans won't.

The Edmonton deal isn't worth while with the goalie swaps. Namestnikov will get a third or possibly better at the deadline. Maybe to make the money work Turris comes back and we leave the goalies as they are?

That's terrible for CBJ. They aren't making the playoffs this year and then Larkin would be a UFA in one year.

That is a very interesting deal...for Detroit.

Kent Johnson + 1st would probably enough, no?

CBJ has no business buying.

A 1st round pick, 2nd round pick, an established skilled nhler, two prospects drafted in the first round and another in the second round is a ridiculous cost.

Larkin is good but he isn’t that good. This is more along the lines of a trade for McDavid than two seasons of Larkin.

As much as value wise that might be the case, no it doesn't. Not for Larkin, Detroit doesn't trade their captain and considering he's a home grown talent, even less likely he goes anywhere.

That said I would want the proposed trade to happen and then resign Larkin in 2023.

Detroit says no, Larkin isn't available there's already talk of Yzerman and his agent working on a lucrative long term deal that he will sign once free agency kicks in on July 13th 2022.

So you’d get this haul and only lose a year of Larkin? Sounds like Columbus would love that.

I think Larkin could return a large package if the acquiring team is signing an extension. But the return Detroit that would get for a rental probably would not be worth it.

Larkin won't be traded anytime soon, if he was, it would take more than Johnson and a 1rst.

2 things to think about with this, first we can not use Eichel to compare to really anything because of his specific circumstances. Demanding a trade, neck surgery, 10m cap hit etc. Yes he was better than Larkin but if he had been healthy and no concern on what condition he would be when he returned, then everyone knows Buffalo could have got a lot more. Also, Mcdavid has never and will likely never ever be available, so its also not a valid comparison, If he was the package put forward in this trade would be a gross UNDER payment.

The second thing. I would think Larkin if available (which no one believes he is so this is all hypothetical) would go for essentially three 1st round equivalent pieces, so Johnson and two 1sts? or swap one of those pieces for equivalent. He's on a fair contract, plays solid at center, plays with a lot of heart and extremely humble, which is why he got the C and also likely why he wouldn't be traded unless a solid over payment. Johnson looks great (I personally believe he will be the steal of that draft at 5 and should have went before McTavish) but none of them are in NHL both feet and producing like Larkin, so try not to get wrapped up in the prospect potential.

I guess what im getting at is, at face value, do I think CBJ do this deal? No. However, the CBJ need to asses when they are ready to try. When will they be ready to push for deep a deep playoff run? If that's now Larkin does a whole lot more for the team than picks and prospects and it would take a lot more than any fan will admit to get him, so every deal you see on here is waaaaay to easy to say "CBJ decline easily"
