I’d go after Kessel with 1/2 retention. He’ll definitely waive his NTC and Arizona will want draft picks over youth (more than others). That’s a big deal IMO because Rangers have a pretty good young core and can afford to part with picks.

- Pavelski/Giroux should be the final piece of the puzzle, they need to shore up the other holes they have before they do this. Primarily, LHD and 3C.
- Hertl I think they should stay away from, there will likely be a bidding war for him. The Wild would be wise to make this trade.
- Toffoli has a multi year deal, doesnt work for us. Chabot is way too expensive with cheaper options availble. Lehkonen could be a nice pick up for the right price, the downside is he needs an extension.
- Dont really have an opinion on Jarnkrok, could be a nice depth pick up.
- Kessel is a hard no, not the type of player that fits the style of the team.
- Tarasenko has the extra year and will cost a lot, not needed. Wont fit next year.

As Ive suggested before, I think a Chicago trade of Dylan Strome and Calvin De Haan would be an ideal trade for us. Maybe grab Lehkonen, then we top it all off with Pavelski or Giroux.

very impressive scouting report!
one add is I think Hertl is off the trade market.
sharks are negotiating with him and have offered him a contract. If we are serious i doubt he is available.

I highly doubt the Blues deal Tarasenko this season, and certainly not for the pieces you have to offer.

If I’m San Jose I’m not moving Hertl unless Lundqvist or Schneider are involved

I like this but my only reservation is I dont know if the rangers are to a point where they should be looking at a rental and should try for a players who they can have for the next few years not just this run

For example, if you trade for Hertl and plan to resign him, you can say goodbye to Strome and Kakko no matter what you do next year to clear cap space.
Toffoli, Tarasenko both have contracts, both will prevent the Rangers from resigning Strome.
Kessel doesnt fit. Pavelski wont resign here and it would be too expensive.
We might be able to resign Lehkonen, but it would be an unnecessary tight squeeze when we have Othmann, Cuylle, Korzak in the system.

it’s easy as a fan to dump the future for right now but that’s the fastest way back to a rebuild. it’s hard not to try for the big name but i think the rangers would be better off trading for 1-2 solid bottom 6 guys, like sharks Barabanov a budding middle 6 or Tierney in ottawa who could be had for cheap. swap a vet net-minder for Georgiev to help spell shest and can come in clutch in the playoffs if needed (covid anyone)
you guys are building a solid contender don’t shoot yourelf in the foot now.

Looking at the Rangers RHD roster, I’d think you could send off one of the prospects for a solid cup run. Trouba and Fox are locked up long term. You have Schneider, Lundkvist, and Skinner that will be ready fairly soon. Why not trade one plus a pick or something relevant to Dallas for Pavelski. Dallas is lacking RHD prospects and they will be trading Klingberg soon. Seems like a perfect match. “Captain America” on the Rangers.

I'd be up for trading Skinner but I wouldn't be willing to give up Schneider or Lundkvist for a short rental especially since its the first year this group is in the playoffs and no guarantee they will go deep
