Description
Going over Tor RD options for TDL. Only going over teams that are currently out of the playoffs.

East:

1. Det:

We are not going to get Snider or Hronek and probably not Lindstorm. Leddy would be nice but would require double retention. Ultimately there are better options.

2. Blue Jackets:

- Bean and Boqvist are probably off limits. My target would be Gavrikov. Would have to pay a lot to get him but at 50% retained would be 1.4M for next 2 years and is an excellent defender. Solid option if CLB lets him go.

3. Flyers:

Ellis and Porovov are off limits. There are a few options here though in Braun and Risto. Most likely get Braun for cheaper but I personally would rather Braun. He has less hits than Risto but more blocked shots and has a 20% defensive zone start (most on Philly).

4. Devils:

- Hamilton obviously not touchable leaving Severson and Subban. Severson has a 19% d-zone start compared to Sub's 12%. Basically equal on hits and +10 more blocks to Severson. Both have equal corsi at 50 and 51%. Every part of me wants to say Severson is the easy pick but I have always thought Subban would be excellent in Toronto and spark their 2nd power play unit. Pair him with Muzz would be a big upgrade on Holl. Would need to pay for Double retention though.

5. Islanders:

- Not much to pick from other than Mayfeild here and I don't think he is an upgrade on Holl so this is a non-starter.

6. Buffalo:

- Most likely not going to get Jokiharu they will probably let him develope more before seeing what he is. Collin Miller is an ok option with 13% d zone start nd 48% corsi. Hagg would be the better option but I don't think he can play RD, if he can though he is my pick from Sabers.

7. Sens:

- Zaitzev of course (kidding no take backs). Zub would be my only choice and even then I think there are better options and Ott probaly wouldn't let him go. No deal to be made here.

8. Canadians:

- Chiarot is really the only option here. 20% starts in D zone and 71 hits with 57 blocks. Terrible turnover ratio though 10to/28ga. Terrible underlying numbers but the argument to be made is do you want the stereotypically playoff hard to play against D man. Savard didnt have good numbers coming from Clb when he went to TB and they won the cup soooo i personally this he is a good option. If you want to argue Chris Wideman as a 7th D that is also a possibility.

West: Not as many teams to pick from here - Flames, Jets, Oilers, Stars, Caunks are out of playoffs right now but only by 2-5 points (compared to Det being about 10 out in the East to start). I don't think any but Vancouver would be open to selling the rest will try to buy to make it in.

1. Caunks:

- Burroughs isn't really an upgrade on our D. Tyler Myers actually wouldn't be bad but I dont think Van will give him up and if they did we would need 3 years retained at 3M = 9M total probably to expensive to even start a trade. Schenn is an option but only as 6 or 7 D man. So not to many options here.

2. Blackhawks:

- Jones isn't going anywhere. Calvin Da Haan is an option with 13% d zone starts and 69 hits with 71 blocks but he does has a lot of giveaways at 28 (25 being in the D zone). He dosn't have the best corsi at 44% but maybe as a 6 or 7th D option if we trade Holl or Demott. Erik Gustaffson his to offensive (3% D zone start - already have him on the team basically no need to trade for him). Murphy is an excellent target imo. 16% D zone starts and with 81 hits and 88 blocks with a corsi of 37% so not very good. I don't watch Blackhawks games but i think he is a good defender. at 50% retained could be a good fit.

3. Kraken:

- Bunch of options here to go over. Dunn, Fleury, Gio, Larsson, and Lauzon. Ill start with Dunn and Fleury. Fleury isn't and upgrade on Holl so no interest however I think Dunn could be a good fit with Muzzin. 9.1% D zone start and 35 hits with 28 blocks but has 14 points and 54% corsi. Would be an upgrade on Holl but need to pay a lot to get him. Gio is LD and I don't think can play RD and had to high cap hit. Larsson is a solid defender despite what people say (18% starts in D zone with only 9 giveaway in the D zone and 91 hits and 71 blocks with a corsi of 43%). Lauzon is an interesting choice. He would probably be the cheapest to get, 17% D zone starts is most on Seattle 100 hits and 20 blocked shots with a corsi of 40%. My choice might surprise you in Lauzon just because Larsson has to much cap hit and I don't think Kraken will retain for 4 years.

4. Coyotes:

- Lyubushkin isn't an upgrade buy could be a good chap depth option. I don't even know who Dysin Mayo is but he starts the most in the D zone for the Coyotes. Stralman is to expensive for what he brings so no deal. Ultimately i don't think a trade for a 2rd will happen with Coyotes.

My top 3:

1. Gavrikov
2. Subban (personal choice numbers say Severson)
3. Murphy

I don't this makes TO better. Murphy is unlikely to be traded and I don't see any of the options listed above worth the cost it would take to obtain. Seems like only slight improvements or lateral moves. Also Liljegren will not be moved. He's looked good this season and I think he will be counted on more and more moving forward.

My perspective as a Jackets fan in reference to your comments would be that Gavrikov is likely more off limits than Bean or Boq. Not saying he has a higher price than both of them but that they would be more hesitant to move him.

Good post. Well thought out trade approaches.

On the Subban trade, the third party to retain 25% would probably take less the a 3rd since it’s only $500k annualized (about $100k at deadline) in real money. Subbans bonuses are all paid.

Hawks aren't going to move Murphy, we just extended him so he's not a rental. We will be moving De Haan at the deadline and he plays both sides.
