PIT wouldn't trade Kapanen to Leafs for anything less than a 1st+.

Niemela or Liljegren plus a 2nd if you want Kapanen. This is a bunch of nothing with a 2nd.

The dallas and seattle trades are awful for toronto (robetson for a salary dump and a 6th defenceman? A goalie playing horrible and some one who isnt as good as muzzin for muzzin plus?)
And the value isnt there for the pens while at the same time not really doing anything for the leafs

All these leafs fans keep trying pawn Engvall and Dermott off on other teams, but act like they're gold.

This guy is out to lunch. Kapanen is not wanted by TO. He's legit not a good player. Terrible defensively and always leaves you wanting more offensively. I would much rather keep useful depth. I do think you can get more than this but I certainly wouldn't pay anything for Kapanen. We fleeced you when we traded him to you.

Those dummies trading them are dummies. They aren't gold but they certainly are useful pieces. Engvall is a very good defensive player who is great on the bottom 6. Dermott is a very good 3rd pair defenceman. These are pieces the team needs. This guy gutting depth for players that don't make the Leafs better are the worst Leaf fans.

Dermott and Engvall are fringe NHL players.

Strange how many pen fans are trading him on here. Almost like they see him as easily replaceable. Almost like they saw so much potential but he is prone to making costly mistakes and sometimes disappears entirely for games on end. I absolutely have no desire to ever see Kapanen back in a Leafs uniform. He was easily our worst player in his last playoff run with the team.

It's more that players like ERod and Heinen have emerged and will likely cost less than Kapanen's next raise. Managing the cap.

They are bubble players on a top 5 team. It's funny how this site seems to think mid level players on bad teams are somehow top end players on good teams and depth guys on great teams wouldn't make bad teams.

Engvall may not be flashy but not much happens offensively when he's on the ice and almost nothing happens in the defensive zone. I'll take that on a 4th line any day of the week.

Dermott is solid on the 3rd pair absolutely worth his spot. The great thing about the Leafs this year is they have depth. They have the luxury of having 13-15 capable NHL forwards and 7 capable NHL defenceman. Haven't had that in a long time. But this is cap friendly and that means any leaf player wouldn't make other teams because they suck and yet somehow TO is 4th in the entire league in points percentage. Definitely likely when your roster is filled with fringe players.

So Kapanen isn't worth a raise then. I couldn't agree more. It's okay to admit he's not that great. Certainly has enticing skills but he's just lacking that certain something between the ears to put it all together.

I wouldn't give you a 2nd alone for Kapanen. I wouldn't take Simmonds out of the lineup to give Kapanen 4th line minutes and all Leaf fans should remember how bad he was in the top 6. He's a 3rd liner and Kase is just flat out more valuable. Actually plays defence.

Kapanen is certainly worth his raise. Kapanen is on pace for about 20G and about 50 points. Yes, he's frustrating at times, but he's certainly a solid middle six winger who if he goes to arbitration will get probably get in the mid to high $4M range. Whereas ERod probably gets in the mid $3M mark and Heinen in high $2M to low $3M. The Pens have to utilize bargains where they can and are in a position where they can move Kapanen for other needs. This trade does not offer any needs for the Pens.

Again, I wouldn't offer this deal to begin with. You can go back through my AGM's on here, I wanted Kapanen gone long ago. I think he's a floater who despite having good stretches, generally leaves you wanting more. And at 26 or whatever he is now, it's just not coming. A 20 goal 50 point winger isn't all that tough to replace. Especially when that guy is asking for 4+ million. You know you can just agree with this and it doesn't make you lose anything. Kapanen just isn't all that special and Pens fans are realizing it. They traded him to get Kessel and that certainly worked out well for you but then you lost the trade to get him back in a big way. He isn't going to get the same return because he just isn't worth it.

Here's the thing. I don't think he's the right type of player for TOR, but I just think this trade benefits TOR way more than it does the Penguins. Forgetting Kapanen, but thinking it's so easy to pick up 50 point wingers is honestly a bit foolish. Too often people on this site think, "Oh, they can just trade this player away, or figure it out, or replace this person so easily." Again, Kapanen doesn't make sense for TOR in general, but that thought process is why there are so many bad trade proposals on this board.

I don't think Kapanen is ever going to be more than a 40-50 point winger who is a liability in his own end and is consistently inconsistent. As for who is and isn't replaceable, everyone on here was adamant that Hyman leaving was going to hurt the Leafs so much, it hasn't at all. Kerfoot, Bunting and Kase have more than made up for his absence and make pretty much the same amount. Kapanen is very easily replaceable with cheaper pieces.

Insane is thinking a 7th D, a 4th liner, a career minor leaguer and a 2nd is enough for a 40-50 point winger.
