It would have cost you a 1st rounder for expansion draft considerations, and for certain cases It would have cost more. You wonder why teams weren’t trading with the Kraken? 1. They learned from their mistakes with Vegas, and 2. They didn’t want to pay a first rounder. Francis made it clear that if you wanted to influence the Krakens pick, or you wanted to dump a contract, you would be starting with a first rounder.

Thats the price you would have paid for Seattle to take Monahan rather than Gio. In actuality we saw that Seattle was asking such a high price for stuff like this that no teams at all took them up on it.

You lost Gio for 1 year. You likely get him back in FA. Really no big loss

It's about getting rid of Monahan and keeping Bennett, Kylington and Gio.

Maybe it does cost the 1st, but I'd be happy with it in retrospective

Remember this is with the use of a time machine.

I think he would have been happy with playing with Mani and Dube as 2C getting the same contract. Don't you?

If Gio was still here, Kylington's emergence likely wouldn't have happened.

Probably for the best that Gio ended up in Seattle. His best days are behind him, Kylington is an ascending player.
