Fixing this team easily by the deadline

Created by: smokewiseganja
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 17, 2022
Published: Jan. 17, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
EDM
CHI
  1. Koekkoek, Slater
  2. Shore, Devin
  3. Turris, Kyle
Additional Details:
Waived / traded for a 7th
2.
EDM
  1. Järnkrok, Calle ($1,000,000 retained)
SEA
  1. Lavoie, Raphael
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (EDM)
3.
EDM
  1. 2022 2nd round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
GM’s in this league are idiots, look at Edmonton. Kassian will somehow have trade value, a decent amount I bet. This team traded for reaves. Maybe they want a little more grit? If not, this could be anywhere
4.
EDM
  1. Middleton, Jake
  2. 2022 6th round pick (SJS)
SJS
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Middleton is a young player and won’t have a ton of trade value, but could be a diamond in the rough. He’s putting up great defensive analytics and is on pace for 25 points in limited ice time (but against good competition)

I wouldn’t say he’s as good obviously but think of Toews to the avalanche. Similar trade here
5.
SEA
  1. Koskinen, Mikko ($1,000,000 retained)
  2. Samorukov, Dmitri
  3. 2023 3rd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
I like Mikko I really do. He’s a good backup goalie that can get 35 solid games. Overplayed in Edmonton. Team is done with him though and with Smith clearly being the favourite in the org + room / skinner coming up, no room for him. He will be moved for a goalie at the deadline no doubt

Reaves provides way more grit at half the cost and for only 2 years, not 3. Rangers have zero need for Kassian.

Middleton is an older player and TBH a 3rd would be a reach, a 2nd is an overpay. and i’m a sharks fan just trying to be fair here,

Trading Lavoie for Jarnkrok is not fixing the team at all, but keep on trying.

Would rather keep Middleton. Take Simek instead.

Lavoie is not very good. Elite shot but nothing else to his game and he’s insanely streaky. Even if he does make the NHL he’s likely not much better than what jarncrok is rn at his peak

Young in terms of his NHL career, he’s got lots to prove and good potential. In 2/3 years I guarantee he’s a top 4 d man on any team

I mean, did the Oilers give up on Benson when he was struggling in the AHL? No, and he got it together and is working towards the NHL, why wouldn't they give Lavoie a similar chance?

Benson never struggled in the AHL. Benson is also a better player than Lavoie and I doubt he’s anything more than a 3rd liner

Correction its not "gms are idiots" its "certain gms are idiots" like ken holland. Nobodys taking kassian for free let alone paying a 2nd for him.

You don’t think it’s more that he's paired with Karlsson and not that he is top 4 potential? i mean i’m all for the idea sharks are spitting out top 4 D men left and right but to be honest i see him as 5-6 D man at best, this very well could be his career year, but he is playing really well. but so is Megna with Karlson and Simek with Karlson and frankly anyone who plays with Karlson this year has played better. and I am not a big fan of Karlsons but i’ll give him credit when credit is due.

It’s certainly a risk. I’ve seen him play albeit only 3/4 games, and I’m impressed, I don’t think this will be a career year

you could very well be right and i love his play this year… but he is slower but very sound defensively and is putting up decent points so i get your reasoning. again 100% would accept the trade just trying to be fair,
