Wi gs have no use for either player. All set at RHD and Engvall has zero value to a team with a bunch of youngsters trying to break into lineup.

Ottawa is not giving a 3rd round pick to a division rival for two cap dumps.

Try again.

LMAO its two players for a flippin 5th rd pick. Unless you're banking on that 5th being the next datsyuk, thats a bargain. i rly dont think it matters to which team theyre going, his point is to dump them for picks

Its cap and players they do not need. 5th 6th or 7th round pick it is players that are not needed. You laugh but teams are not going to take other teams dumps. Under this post if you do not dump them you have cap issues. Again you can laugh but Wings have zero use for them at any pick.

We don’t have the roster space for them. It’s already been stated our need is LHD/C so yeah that would be a pass to help Toronto navigate their cap.

Yeah you don't need them, but this guys point is to dump them for picks, not necessarily to DET.

It’s a fricking 5th round pick for 2 roster players. Not sure what the downside to this trade is. The wings have plenty of cap space.

They dont need them apparently, so we move on and trade them to one of the other 30 teams that could want them.

Becuase we do not need them and it is about cap space. Just because Toronto does not have cap, it does not mean we do so here solve our problem. Wings are not a dumping ground for players who do not fit a teams system and that team is looking to shed cap. Wings have 3 RHD in Seider, Hronek and Lindstrom, what do they do with Holl? Engval is not needed as Wings have alot of young players and soon get back Vrana, so Wings eat cap for two players not needed to help Toronto. Your comment Wings have cap shows that you do not care what the other teams needs it is only what Leafs need in this case. Sure that is how the NHL works, only care about the Leafs, in this case.

Detroit is not a dumping ground for Toronto. They'll have to be put through waivers and buried in the AHL.

That's fair, but then put a note in the ACGM stating that. I submitted a request to CF almost a year ago to add the NHL symbol as a trade partner to avoid this type of confusion. If the trade is meant to be a "anywhere for any value" type, that needs to be noted, or else it's going to lead people to think you're targeting a destination.

100% agree. Generally, whenever I see players to a team for JUST picks, I dont pay too much attention to the recipient/value as the whole point of the trade is to dump them for picks.

Ok, fine, then why not just politely decline instead of saying they have “no use” for them, or (you didn’t say this but someone else did) saying it’s an “insanely hard pass”. I cannot understand how acquiring 2 roster players for a 5th round pick is an insanely hard pass.

I think the point the other person was trying to make is that it's unlikely that any team will want to do Toronto any favours. Paying you to pick contracts up that you really cant afford to hold on to is unlikely. If anything Toronto would be the ones having to pay the picks to dump these players. Correct me if I'm wrong but havent Engvall and Ritchie already cleared waivers this year? If no one wanted them for free I cant imagine that anyone would suddenly be willing to pay you mid round picks.

Ottawa certainly wouldnt touch Kase and Ritchie for a 3rd, cant see anyone else doing that one either. You have the right idea with the Mrazek trade. I'm not saying it would take a 2nd to make every other trade work but youll likely need to do something along those lines.

The divisional rival aspect and the “helping the leafs out” aspect are decent points for sure. I’m not guaranteeing it happens, I’m just saying it’s not like the red wings are getting fleeced or anything.

Also, while Ritchie certainly did clear waivers, Engvall did not and the leafs probably aren’t looking to trade him anyways as he’s probably not going to demand much on his next deal, and he’s been a nice bottom six forward. The same applies to the Ottawa deal with Kase: they are not trading Kase to get rid of Ritchie. They will just pay a draft pick to do it, or buy him out.

I don't think Spezza is your 3rd line center, maybe you have him in the wrong spot. Sandin isn't getting 4.5 million. I don't think Joey Anderson is a NHL player
