nope, nope, nope, and nope.
Kempny has 1 year left, he wouldn't cost a 2nd to unload.
Chiarot is not worth giving up a 1st for, especially since he would be a 3rd pairing defenseman. Fehervary is cemented on the 1st pair, as is Orlov on the second. TVR is fine on the 3rd, and if the Caps do look for a defenseman, I would expect it to be a RD who great in the defensive zone but doesn't have to provide much playing time or offense.
Greiss would be cheaper than that, and is actually a downgrade to Vanecek and Samsonov stats wise, so no thanks.
Laine trade makes no sense for either side. He would fill Mantha's role even though Mantha will likely be back come playoff time, and the Capitals won't have the Cap to resign him in the offseason. I'd rather have Lapierre, a 1st, and McMichael for multiple years. Also doesn't make sense for CBJ, since he is an RFA who you have great control over and still has great potential and upside at 23 years old.
Going to rattle off the line issues as well here: Hagelin has been a disaster anywhere except with Dowd and Hathaway, Dowd would not be a scratch, if Protas wants to start it would likely be over Sprong, Fehervary should be first line, Orlov and Jensen should be line 2, TVR would not be sent down since he would be claimed on waivers, possibly the same with Cholowski and Irwin as well.
