Let’s forget Detroit’s RD is already set for the foreseeable future. With how Petry’s been playing and his age the compensation isn’t remotely realistic. Yzerman doesn’t care what Petry has done but rather what is he going to do for him on that contract.

I wouldn't send Dustin Brown for Gallagher 1-for-1. Not on that god awful contract. Forget sending the first.

We're not trading our 2022 first for Brendan Gallagher even with 50% retention, never mind franchise icon Dustin Brown.

You have the first round pick going the wrong way in the Detroit trade.

Petry definitely isn't worth a 1st anymore, but he's definitely not a cap dump.

I guess so, he's a leader that was born and raised in Detroit so they might be interested in him.

Got 3 pretty good younger, cheaper and better options for the right side right now. I doubt Yzerman would be interested in acquiring him unless a sweetener was added. Too much salary with too much term left. I'm not opposed to taking him on personally as I think he could be a good partner for Edvinsson to learn from, but it doesn't make sense to pay anything for him and to be honest if we were to help a team with that much cap there should be something of value coming our way beyond just the player himself.

Just like Trouba and Krug recently. It’s nice from a marketing stand point but then again Larkin is already filling that need so birth certificate means very little.

Edmonton declines hard. So does Duncan Keith.

Keith > Chiarot
Smith > Allen

And you want high picks too? GFY.
