Sammy Blais could make sense in trade too. Beauvillier is overpaid.

If Bergeron wants to sign in Montreal, I’m sure Hughes will have no problem negotiating with himself. I’m also sure Bergeron will have no problem signing a zillion dollars worth of endorsement deals in this province.

One would think that since Hughes is now a GM he will have to close his player agent business due to conflict of interest.

Definitely, but players can also choose to represent themselves (Markov tried it)... in this case the optics of that wouldn't be good since Hughes was just his agent lol

Would be awesome for MTL though if it works out hahaha

im also sure bergeron would love to lose every bruins fan that ever loved him, come on be smart that move would be so disrespectful to the bruins franchise and bruins community. also im sure bergy is gonna wanna compete for a cup till he retires and montreal had their chance and i don't see them getting another chance for a while with how stacked the atlantic is. ottawa and detroit are gonna become real good as their youth develops, boston and tampa even though they are getting on the older side are still solid teams and florida and toronto though they might not have much playoff success are still 2 of the most dominant regular season teams.

What about Patrice Bergeron says that he cares about a zillion dollars worth of endorsement deals with the habs? He’s a 37 year old figure hall of famer who grew up a nordiques fan and played for the bruins his entire career. What is so great about a one year deal with a team who has 21 points through 38 games? If he wants to be in Canada, he’ll retire and move. Doesn’t need to play Captain for a rebuilding team to go home.

You can’t envision a scenario where he’d want to work for Hughes after his career? I can.

That’d be pretty pathetic for any Bruins fan after all he’s done for your franchise. But to each their own.

EDIT: I read your post wrong. After his career, I have no idea what his motivations are, I could see him staying in hockey I can see him wanting to be a dad/husband etc.

I hear ya. His motivations are his own. Next season it’s going to be fascinating to see if the Bruins show him the respect he deserves. Definitely not too late to get something done, but it is kinda curious to me that he doesn’t already have an extension already in place. Time will tell.

He said in the off-season he wasn’t gonna talk extension til the year is over. I just think he’s mulling over retirement more than “I want a new team” I guess you never know but that’s at least how I read it. I think the chances of a move to MTL would be more likely if the team was competitive - but that just isn’t the case at the moment

Habs were never trying to win this year. The draft is in Montreal, and we’re trending to have the first pick in each round. we’ve added picks, and will add a ton more before now and the deadline.
          1) Weber, take the year off. We can revisit this in September and see how your body feels.
          2) Carey, take the year off to get healthy. Mentally and physically. We care about you, the person, first.
          3) Joel Edmundson, take the time with your dad. We have no expectation of you playing this season.
          4) We’re still in a global pandemic with no fans in our arena for the foreseeable future.

We saw this script 6 years ago. We were the number one team in the whole league, Price got hurt, and we became the last placed team in the whole NHL. We got to the cup finals, lost to a team $18mm over the cap, and without Price we’re dead last again. But add Bergeron and Letang to a team with Price and I like our chances as much as anyone. Would need serious cap gymnastics to make it all fit though.

Lot of uncertainty here, but in all honesty when i my view on "more likely if the team was competitive " still doesnt mean very likely at all. Not saying its impossible - but i would find it very very very surprising if he left Boston for Montreal. The connection is there, but the "home" thing is a little bit of a stretch, he didnt grow up a habs fan, etc. and its not like MTL is going to COL, FLA, or TBL (a surefire contender) even if they improve from this year (which to be fair isnt saying a whole lot). Like i said, I wont say its impossible but I would find it very surprising.
