1st pairing Dman. Will be more rounded and more valuable than Chabot

Only Ottawa draft miss recently was Boucher (still so soon so could be okay) . Other than that I feel like Ottawa has done very well recently in the 1st round. Not to mention the other picks they’ve made.

Wheeler hated the picks the Sens took in 2020. Greig is ripping up the WHL rn. Jarventie has been putting up decent numbers as a 19 year old in the AHL. Sanderson is over a PPG in college as a 19 year old with less of an offensive team than they did last year. Better numbers than Makar at the same age. And Stutzle has been playing really well on both ends ever since he made the switch to centre

Would be interested to see what the price would be for Provorov without GIroux's rights attached.

Apart from that I just have a really hard time seeing Ottawa prioritize possibly their biggest strength at LD instead of using all of those assets to address almost anything else.

Also I would argue that in this case Ottawa is giving up almost as much, if not more than Vegas did to acquire Eichel.

We’d have one of the strongest Dcorps in the league. We’d also have a real good forward group and deep as well

I certainly wouldn't give up anything for "rights" for Giroux. Think you're giving up way too much for Provorov. I know you you got rid of White and his cap, but there are usually lots of LHD available. And in a cap strapped league...players will sign in Ottawa.

1. You're giving Thomas Chabot money to Josh Norris, which is an overpayment IMO.

2. Claude Giroux will want more money and more term with Joe Pavelski's contract with Dallas as the bare minimum.

3. We are not spending our 2023 1st round pick on a LD, no matter how good he is.

Always been a Provorov fan but he has been struggling the last 2 years. He's also a LD which we don't need at all.

Greig is way too important for the future to sacrifice in a deal we don't need to make. Also, giving up that 2023 1st round pick is still very risky.

Sign Giroux as a UFA, if not explore another avenue.

Future stud ala Jaccob Slavin.

The late Bryan Murray revamped the drafting department in 2007, so starting in 2008, Ottawa's drafting has been excellent in the vast majority of drafts (first pick was Erik Karlsson at 15th OA, Murray traded up from 18th OA to get it). Murray also hired Trent Mann in 2011-12 who is now the head of drafting.

That being said, the 2021 class looks bad for now, except for Johansson and Latimer. Hopefully it'll improve but I will always dislike the Boucher pick, unless he really booms into a Wilson type.

Not to mention Merilainen (3rd round) was going to be Finland's starter at the WJC. Sokolov (late 2nd) has been doing really well in the AHL. And Daoust (5th round) is one of my favorite darkhorse prospects in the organization (had very intriguing advanced stats in the Q last season). Oh and forgot, Tyler Kleven is a beast in the making (ala Joel Edmundson but even nastier)

Kleven will always be tied to Hirvonen and Niemela.

Yeah but that's not really how it works...

Do the Starts regret trading a 6th for Alex Auld in 2009 because the Sens drafted Mark Stone with the pick?

Not always of trading up though, but Kleven would have been gone if they didn't trade up...

Want no part of a solid 3rd liner overpaid by ~1.25 to get this?

Greig, Ridly (blue chip prospect)
2023 1st round pick (OTT)
Bernard-Docker, Jacob
2022 2nd round pick (TBL)

As I stated, Giroux won't be a Flyer so we won't have his rights. We also have to take Austin Watson too so unless we are going into full on rebuild mode (won't happen) I don't see us trading Provy for strictly futures and cap dumps.

Is a 1.5 mill 4th liner really a cap dump? That’s so low lol and he’s effective at blocking shots and killing penalties

I did too. But the Sens always pass on the guys dropping. We passed on Gunler, Hoglander, Peterka, Kaliyev, Lavoie, Tolvanen, etc. we always pass on the guys that fall

Austin Watson is not a cap dump, he's an all heart all effort 4th liner, doesn't hurt you while on the ice, will sacrifice for the team and score a goal there and there. At 1.5 for only 1 year left, not a cap dump. He's just a random piece thrown by the OP, no idea why he is part of the deal (probably to create a roster spot). He doesn't add much value, it doesn't change the deal much if at all if he's here or not.

Colin White is not a pure cap dump too. He is overpaid like I have already explained but for the sake of the discussion, let's say that White is a "partial cap dump", my question was don't you think it'd still be worth it to take a small cap dump (1.25 x 3 years) to be able to get these 4 assets? 3 firsts and a 2nd for Provorov? I'm not saying the Flyers SHOULD trade Provorov but in terms of value, do you expect him to have more value than Eichel?

All that being said, we do NOT want to make this deal, Sens don't need Provorov at all.
