CAL def needs a PP QB,s so Klingberg is a good target for them, but I don't think DAL wants Monahan back. CAL has the space. so the picks and maybe a prospect work. I think the picks and Valimaki would be ideal, cause it give DAL a replacement D. Then trade Monahan's rights after the season to a lower end team that is desperate for a center for a pick or two and you're golden

If I’m Dallas, I’d rather get a late 1st & a Pelletier, Zary, Coronato type prospect. If Valimaki played on the right side, I’d be all over it, but the Stars have the left side of their blue line pretty well taken care of moving forward.

How about sending Backlund the other way instead of Monohan

That's even worse, cause he has 2 years left at an unfriendly cap hit. He's not producing to his contract, and probably won't ever again. DAL isn't in a position to take a cap dump. They already have a couple high priced forwards signed long term that aren't performing.

I think Dallas should probably start moving towards a rebuild, they shouldn't be afraid to weaponize their cap space going forward imo

I completely agree. That's why they wouldn't take Backlund for 2 more years

Uh, that's exactly why they would, to weaponize their cap space. You do know what that means right?

Taking on a guy who's under performing and a big cap hit for 2 years past this year is not weaponizing it, it's taking it away.

I'm not saying Dallas pays to take on Backlund, I mean Calgary pays to unload Backlund to Dallas

Ok, I get you. So what would they pay? The first and the 4th are for Klingberg (cause they're in desperate need of a PP guy and they'll over pay) and the 3rd is for Faksa as a pretty good depth F. I'd say it takes another first or a top prospect to take on 2 more years at over $5mil for Backlund. Might be too steep for the Flames

Faksa isn't good depth, he's bad cap. Faksa has really struggled ever since signing that five year deal he's currently on. I'd say Flames only have to pay a 3rd/4th rounder to dump Backlund as he is still somewhat useful

Well, looks like I F'd up. For some reason I thought Faksa was on an expiring contract. Looks like it's time for me to retire..........
