I don’t understand the fascination with spending multiple assets this year. The team may be in a great position but is not good enough to win in the playoffs yet. Too much youth in the lineup with very little to no playoff experience.

I like Lehkonen, but the last thing the Rangers need is another 3rd line Winger.

They found some magic these last couple games moving Chytil to RW. But realistically, that's what they should target.

Reilly Smith. Joe Pavelski. Tomas Hertl.

They have enough Bottom 6 Forwards without Lehkonen

Giving up a 1st for ANY player on an expiring contract should be a fireable offense...Look no further than Zuc...most thought he'd land a 1st- he ended up landing a 2nd and 3rd, with pie-in -the sky conditions for those picks to become 1sts...Zuc got hurt in his VERY FIRST GAME- and was a non factor for DAL. The conditions were never met, and the NYR kept the 2nd and 3rd. The NHL is much too random, and way too many things can happen to take on so much risk (a 1st round pick) for 1 cup run.

BTW...if the team has the intention to extend the player- then I change this stance. But due to CAP considerations, I do not think the Rangers can afford (going forward) any player warranting a 1st round pick.

I thought the rumors about Ben Chiarot for a 1st round pick weren’t regarding a specific team. I only heard about Lehkonen for Kravtsov from Arthur Staple (which I like)

For what it’s worth, trading for Tomas Hertl probably requires trading Chytil to San Jose. Then you’ll have an opening on the 3RW for a player like Lehkonen.

Uh… if the team is not good enough to win in the playoffs in your opinion, then why wouldn’t you want to spend assets to make the team better so that it is good enough to win?

I agree and will add that the last thing Montreal needs is another RW'er so I don't see the point in this rumor. We aren't moving any of Anderson, Gallagher or Caufield. With Armia and Toffoli both being natural RW's I just don't see this kind of move making sense.

Agreed. I've seen the Lehkonen to NYR rumours but nothing about NYR being interested in Chiarot. Can you link to a source for that?

I simply think they shouldn’t rush things. Just cause they’re at the top of the division doesn’t automatically make them contenders. Most teams take time to gain experience before getting over the hump. I just think this isn’t the year for big moves like that. Next year could make a lot more sense. No point in spending a 1st and burning a decent prospect to be beat in 5 or 6 games.

Make the 1st a 2nd and it's reasonable. Chiarot and Lehkonen won't get this kind of return..

You really don’t see any possible trade involving a 1st and a prospect that would return a player who can help the Rangers make it to the second round? I really don’t see how that’s rushing things either unless that prospect is someone who has an apparent long term future window with the Blueshirts. It’s a waste of time.

You're both sorta right, the answer is kinda in the middle. Package somehow for an upgrade, but on the cheap, ie an ELC like Lapierre. Possibly for a cost controlled vet, ie Couture@1/2. Pavelski as a ufa instead of for assets, considering we don't have many "tradable" assets

Wtf is the point of burning a 1st and decent prospect to maybe get to the second round. Those moves only make sense if you’re a single move from the cup, otherwise this **** is a crapshoot at best. What happens if they make a move like this and get swept or bounced in 5 games, it’s worthless. They aren’t a Tampa or Colorado. Seems like people everywhere seem to have serious blinders on with this season.
