Hertl most likely will be signed by the deadline but if not i could easily see him in a Rangers uni

I have a very string feeling that Lehkonen will be a Rangers’ rental.

I’d also probably throw Reilly Smith in that list of NYR targets over Kessel or Giroux because of his connection with Gallant. That adds interest in itself

Not to mention the cap problem Vegas has when Eichel is ready to go.

Miller has an extra year compared to Hertl. Hertl is better but I think that extra year is worth a lot, especially with retention.

his biggest value is net front on pp imo. rangers have the guy who's right up there w him at the top of the league in kreider. don't see his fit w nyr.

I think they can sacrifice Dadonov/McNabb and place Pacioretty on LTIR to keep Smith in theory.

lundkvist chytil 1st for miller 25-30% retained is the farthest i'd go from the rangers. canucks gonna want schneider which idt the rangers should do. i'd rather no trade.

def reilly smith unless vgk pulls off some tampa cap magic. i rlly like giroux's fit on nyr. problem is i have zero clue what philly would want for him especially in a return from ny.

Really high on Reilly Smith, even if he isn't considered the best player available.

Expiring Contract.
Familiar with Gallant.
Solid #'s of his own this Season.
Wouldn't require as many assets to acquire him as it will for Miller or Hertl.

smith would be awesome i just have a feeling vgk will find a way to make him work under the cap. if they can't by the deadline and they shop him he'll be high up on nyr's list for sure

thats only on the power play. he has 10 PP points out of 36 most of his value is on 5v5 production unlike miller who's come on the PP. Miller would also not even crack our healthy PP one. Pavs is the much better 5v5 player(which is where NYR struggle). He should be our number one target imo

I'd rather not trade Miller but if we did Schneider would need to be the main piece coming back to the Canucks. I totally understand why Rangers fans don't want to trade him.

Says who? Lehky was drafted as a 2nd, and hasn't lost any value in being a good middle-6 who is responsible and plays on the PK. He'll fetch a 2nd with maybe a mid to low end prospect...

I guess we’re throwing out that whole develop and rebuild mentality for wasting picks and prospects for a legit pipe dream at the cup. This team is not gonna win a damn thing in the playoffs yet. Half of the guys have never been to the playoffs and under the age of 23-24. Unless Shesty pulls some magic out of his ass and becomes Hasek or Roy, I’ve got a tough time seeing the value in this. The reliance on one of those rentals, Kreider, Trouba, Mika, Panarin, Strome and Goodrow is gonna be huge. Still a big issue is the middle 6 scoring. The young guys need to step up to make this worth it and not just play well, but actually put up some points consistently. Plus the chance of having Nemeth on the back end in the playoffs scares me. Not tryna hate, just being realistic here.

Yeah maybe, they will have to do something. And you're right, Potvin does suck.

You are being realistic; the problem is reality doesn't enter into the equation for 95% of the posts on this forum. If you asked every Ranger fan on this forum, and on Earth, BEFORE this season started, what do you want to see from this team this year.....95% of them would have said, develop the kids, make the playoffs and keep progressing and improving the team. Now, because they are off to a good start, it's throw the plan out the window and try to win the Cup now. It doesn't seem to matter that they have a slim, if any, realistic shot this year. It's just dumb. If they stay the course and keep building the right way, they will be a Cup contender for several years very soon. Hopefully, Drury does this.

Agree 100%

If we make any moves at the TDL, I think they should be relatively minor (e.g., middle six replacement for Blais). We have no need to stray from the rebuild plan already in place, so bringing in any player that costs valuable picks or prospects and is merely a playoff rental is (in my opinion) a mistake. We need to address our Center depth long-term, not add Phil Kessel for a two month stint on Broadway.

I appreciate the excitement that comes with playing well, but in reality NYR are not ready to push deep into the playoffs. Could it happen? Sure, and I'd be excited to see it. But the road is tough (goes through CAR, WSH, and PIT just in our own division, not to mention FLA, TBL, BOS, etc....) -- the price of competing at that level now will be very high and likely damage our depth in the coming years.
