You’d have to play him with Aho and Teravainen. Those are the rules.

From a Canes perspective, value is fine. He'd be a pure rental though because Carolina can't afford his QO in case he accepts it.

Fair trade, just don't see CAR being able to afford him in the offseason.

If they are going to trade for him I'm sure they could figure something out to keep him. It would cost them some other assests.

Caniac2000 nailed it. Would be great, but the QO (or the agreed long term contract) will be too much for the Canes. Laine would guarantee the Canes lose Trocheck and Nino (in the trade), along with almost assuring Tony D’S Arb case too.

Would be better to use some of those assets to solidify the defensive 3rd pairing.

It would cost them a top six C in Trocheck, and probably TDA or Bear. That's not worth it. He'd be a 1-year rental.
