Team: 2021-22 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 23, 2021
Published: Jan. 19, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Reilly Smith is purely a rental...Hertl trade could lead to an extension however that would mean most likely that Strome will not get an extension barring a trade of some kind. Giordano is a longshot, but one can dream.
Trades

NYR
  1. Smith, Reilly
Additional Details:
May be an overpay by the Rangers for a rental. If that is the case remove a 4th round pick and I think that should do it. Vegas is going to need to get under the cap when Eichel is healthy they won't have much leverage imo.

  1. Gauthier, Julien

Vegas doesn’t really need or want another roster player. We respond with Smith for 2+4 (+5 if he re-signs)

Can’t see the Sharks taking that deal at all.

Don't think we would need Giordano. We should keep room for youngsters to grow.

I am all for the kids playing however it seems the squad wants to have a veteran of sorts on the backend for that 3rd pair. Nemeth has been underwhelming to say the least, and the team keeps giving Hajek chances for some reason. I figure that Giordano would sure up that position and make at least a player of great value while putting whatever young Dman Schneider or Lundkvist opposite him.

I don't think that is a terrible trade. Maybe there is more value that is needed, but if Hertl provides a limited amount of teams where he would be willing to go. The Sharks may not have much power in the decision.

He’ll waive that NMC if the team he’s getting traded to is a bonafide playoff team who wants him a lot

just tell me where would you shred 12M to keep one of Hertl, Smith, Strome, Gio, Georgiev... or even give a little raise to Kakko... and a bigger one in a year to Laffy & Miller?

It’s not a matter of affording him for next year. All in means damn the torpedoes and go for the cup. But my guess would be if they wanted to keep Hertl they would have to let Strome walk.
