Edmonton does. Their first is off the table until they get hot again. They're currently several points out of the playoffs.

McDavid may be on the table if they dont turn around now and make the playoffs, what good is a first rounder to them if he wont make an impact for another 3 years

Buffalo pass. We could get better returns individually or just keep Olofsson. We can take Koskinen's contract if Oilers pays 3rd or 4th.

again why? Tampa does every year works for them. If you are contending and in the window what is the point of holding onto something that cant help for 3 years. A lot can happen in 3 years, ask eichel

I'd say oil would say yes other than they wouldn't have any money for Olofsson next season

I'm sincerely not trying to be rude, but if the GM is stating in plain english what his plans are, does asking these questions matter? Also, you've seen the decisions this guy has made; can you really put any kind of rational thought behind them?

So you are saying a gm has never lied or changed his mind before? I am sure if he is on the hot seat and needs the team to perform trading a first round pick will be an option, especially since he will likely not even be around to see the guy they picked make an impact anyway.

Well, if they don't do anything, then yes, but they will probably start making moves soon to fix the situation.

GM's have definitely given vague answers and said things like "we don't plan to do this or we don't plan to do that," but when they are THAT specific? No. They generally haven't. At least not in this day and age.

We can get a 3rd to take Koskinen and a 2nd to trade Miller. This is wasting Olofsson.

Which is a very different scenario and I don't think McD would EVER do such thing, but if he requested a trade? Sure, that could change things, but it's AGM's like this that completely ignore the reality of situations.

I have a strong feeling the oilers wont finish the year with their first round pick. That is my opinion. I have personally seen scenarios where gms and coaches tell media one thing and then go on to do another.

He said he wasnt moving a 1st for a rental. Olofsson, as an RFA, would not be a rental

Oilers say No. both Miller & Olofsson are Free Agents next yr. Holland wont trade their first rnd pick for rentals, if at all.

I agree that Holland is stupid for not wanting to use the First rnd picks during mcdavid and drai's prime yrs. But not for rentals like in this trade.

Olofsson is too soft. Oilers have enough soft players, he is not at all what they need.

That is irrelevant. You still don't throw away someone of his value?

I was just clarifying the quote. Since his rookie year, he's been good not great, and hes already 26, so not too much growth left expected.

With the Oilers in their current state, there is a zero percent chance that the 1st gets traded without protection. Currently, based on P% that pick would be around 13th. Trading a mid-first like that you better be getting players back that are part of a bigger picture. Won't be rentals like those guys.
