VAN
  1. Kapanen, Kasperi [RFA Rights]
  2. Zucker, Jason
Additional Details:
Apparently Sullivan hasn't been a great fit for Kapanen. In this deal PIT sheds cap by moving Zucker and moves on from an asset that doesn't seem to fit while creating even more cap space in Kapanen. Klimovich is a young prospect who is very raw but has a high ceiling and McDonough has been a good NCAA scorer.
PIT
  1. Klimovich, Danila
  2. McDonough, Aidan [Reserve List]
Additional Details:
Canucks land Kapanen who is young enough to add speed and tenacity with some skill to their top-9 for the forseeable future. Zucker only has one year left so we can have him for this year and then move on, maybe even retain and move him at the deadline.

Hard pass from the Pens. I think they could get a return for Zucker this offseason.. guys like Arvidsson and Dadonov struggled with previous teams and were still able to pull at least a 3rd. The Pens will probably look to do that. Kapanen could still get a good return so we wont move him to dump Zucker. We still want to compete this season. I think Zucker gets moved for a pick this offseason and Kapanen either resigns or gets traded for a similar player.

I should have mentioned that this would be an offseason move, my bad should have mentioned that.

What if instead of McDonough we included DiPietro? Pretty good goalie prospect who's played a couple years in the AHL already and has some value. Demko is our guy so we can afford to move on from him.

Zucker + Kapanen for DiPietro + Klimovich + pick

Dickinson could be worked in as a roster player in return.

Doesn't even work on a cap basis. Hard pass from Vancouver.

I wouldn't trade Klimovich or McDonough for Kapanen straight up. Okay, maybe McDonough I would

Kapanen is an established top-9 forward who can play PP and PK and is good for 30+ points a year. Klimovich and McDonough are nowhere close as of right now.

I have to agree here. This is a piss poor return for the Pens. Zucker is playing great hockey right now and may possibly have found his scoring touch again and Kap is on pace for almost 50 points. While I think it's possible both get moved in the off-season, they can get better returns than this.

Klimovich has a pretty high ceiling, and McDonough has gotten consideration for team USA at the olympics. I'd rather bet on those two guys rather than go for Kapanen who can be a bit streaky at times. I'm also not entirely sold on Zucker either
