Description
Friedman and others are suggesting Colorado has some interest in Fleury, and Fleury might be open to waiving his NMC for Denver. Colorado doesn't have any cap space, so equal money needs to go out. What does that look like? Here's an idea:

Fleury to Colorado
Kuemper to Edmonton
Koskinen to Chicago

The cap works, what other pieces need to be involved? Colorado obviously doesn't have a 1st or 2nd pick this year, so there would have to be prospects involved. I think this is better for Chicago though - they aren't doing a full rebuild and won't want to wait several years for picks to pan out.

Maybe a high end prospect from both teams coming back to CHI and/or a 2nd or 1st. Remember both Colorado and Edmonton will most likely be late 1st rounders, which is not the same as a top 12 or even a top 20 1st rounder. If all CHI gets is a cap dump goaltender and retained salary on MAF, this is absolutely a no go from CHI. Plus, if MAF doesn't want to play the cup chasing game then CHI won't do anything. Honestly, if he doesn't want to retire and would be willing to re-sign with CHI for a season or two while our G prospects are still developing, they should be more than happy to do it and not trade him at all.

So EDM gets a free goalie upgrade while also dumping Koskinens 4.5M? Seems like CHI is getting completely ripped off, EDM is making out like a bandit, and COL is making a lateral goalie move. EDM has to add significant pieces here

Kuemper and MAF are very similar this season. If they want goalie insurance its that tandem.
If they do such a move, its Frankie who would be moved out, not Kuemper

This makes zero sense for COL. COL already invested a 1st and top prospect in Kuemper and he was starting to play significantly better.

That's not enough cap out though.

they would have to make another move, avs wont be just making 1 move at the TDL. The cap can be managed as needed

I don't understand the obsession with another starting goalie to the Avs. At best it would be a marginal upgrade on Kuemper, but most likely it's lateral and not worth the trouble.

I would be potentially into getting a cheap and young third goalie. I heard Washington wants a vet (Holtby or MAF maybe). Does that mean they move one of their guys? Could a 3-way where the Caps get one of those two, Avs get say Vanecek, and Chicago/Dallas gets picks/prospects make sense? Idk, spitballing.

I skimmed it. Which is why i started out by saying what would need to be added. Didn't realize Colorado's lack of a 1st or 2nd until I just went back up and read it completely. Even still, I don't see why Colorado would want to do this. Fleury is probably the better goaltender but it's close enough that they probably wouldn't want to give up anything for such a minor upgrade. So for COL to include anything significant would probably be counter productive.

Yes but its a very weird base for a trade since Kuemper and Fleury >>>>>>>>> Koskinen. EDM has to add significant pieces

Its a lateral move for COL in net too. Fleury has a -2.3GSAx (-0.087GSAx/60) while Kuemper has a -0.2GSAx (-0.008GSAx/60) so theres not really much benefit there besides playoff experience

The ubiquitous reports of interest, ehh? By whom? Because I can tell you in COL there hasn’t been anything. Not from The Athletic, not DNVR, not even from Dater. Know why, because Friedman was right that COL and CAR will be mentioned in every trade rumor.

Where are you getting those numbers from? They don't jive with what I'm seeing.

Won't happen. Colorado doesn't have one and Edmonton's not getting enough value. It'll be prospects and lesser picks.

I got them from https://moneypuck.com/goalies.htm

They are using different xG models I guess. They seem to have pretty similar xG numbers for Kuemper, but Fleury's xG is quite a bit different between the two sites (73.91 vs 68.69)

which there should be, sakic should be interested and checking on every player of note that could make their team better. hes not doing his job as a GM if hes not poking around the league IMO

The lehner trade that the hawks did to get him to Vegas thru Toronto with rentention...it didnt involve a first. Maclom Subban, a 2nd, and a prospect, who wasn't a top prospect at the time. .
Teams would look at that trade price over a 1st or a 1st+ that some trades have shown. Lehners numbers were solid at the time too.

What that be like Skinner and a 2nd for MAF 50% retained....maybe?

No you sited a guy that openly said COL and CAR were going to be mentioned in every trade RUMOR. There are zero articles saying the Avs are interested in MAF, what there are are a lot of opinion pieces by places like nhltraderumors.com, and thehockeywriters.com saying COL should look into him. So if there are reports, actual reports you’ve seen and not opinion pieces please do share.

But there is also a distinct difference between reports and speculation on blogs. But 100% right Sakic is looking into any venue to improve the team.
