Dallas accepts. And if you are short of D, we can send you Sekera or Hanley in that trade free of charge and with retention.

Why not just use another team to eat 1 mil of Klingbergs salary. Do another minor move with the middle team to make the cap work and it works out. You’re looking at $215k to sort out. It’s doable.

Dallas gets Cal Foote and a 1st while retaining half of Klingberg. You then own the rights to do a sign and trade in the off-season.

Maybe it’s not the best deal for Dallas, but they at least get a young player that can step in this season at RD.

Phleb already mentioned it but I think Sekera with half retained needs to go in the deal. I don’t see Tampa thinning their depth that much

I could see Hanley and Klingberg (50% retained on both) for Cal Foote, a 1st in 2022, and Ruuta. The only negative is that it eats into the retention on qty of players. For some reason I believe you can only retain on 3 players. If Pavs goes to NYR at no retention, then it’s plausible. We could still trade Rads with retention.

You’re right. Better save the retention strategy for JK, Rads and Pavelski. I was joking a little bit here by adding the retention for Sekera and Hanley. Just wanted to informed them that we can supply easily 7th or 8th defensemen free of charge. 😀

So TB gives up more assets to get marginally better

Really?

I’ll give you an option to choose a player for a playoff run. Both players cost about the same. JK who can be a beast in the playoffs and can run a PP or Cal Foote who plays on the bottom pair. You know, since this AGM was about a threepeat. You choose. Argue all you want. Doubt I’ll give you much clout.

I bet if TB signed and traded JK, they would get something back while making their team better short term.

Your whole point is completely delusional 1 they don't cost similar and if they do Foote isn't the only asset Tampa Bay is loosing .
When was the last sign and trade in the NHL this isn't the NBA and doesn't happen.

You’re kind of an @ss.

If the Stars retained half and a second team retained half at a mid pick, you lose Foote, a 1st, and a mid pick. The difference is around 215k. If this is a 3peat, then that’s a 32nd OA pick. You’re not losing much. And Klingberg wants 8 years, so who ever wants him will trade for the rights for about the cost of the mid pick you lose. It doesn’t have to be sign and trade.

You call that delusional or AGM business? Delusional is worrying about the bottom pair when going for a 3peat. That’s delusional.

If it was just Foote yeah it would be but it isn't and did you not hear or see them play with just 4 defenseman in LA? IS THE SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT OF KLINGBERG BETTER THAN RUTTA AND FOOTE AND A FIRST AND ASSETS FOR FURTHER RETENTION NO

Would u say that its possible that Pavelski gets re-signed? Leaving Dallas capable to retain Klingberg, Radulov and Hanley. Asking for another one of these which includes Hanley 50% retained, I wont post it if its too much of a reach😅

This thread got heated unexpectedly. I mean, yeah, Klingberg would be an improvement over a couple of d-men, but the Lightning already have 3 d-men who can run a powerplay so I don't know what role he would fill for the assets given up. Savard was brought in last year because he blocked shots. It's the defensive role that Foote isn't fulfilling, he's not needed for scoring. (NOTE: I'm not saying JK isn't good defensively, just that it wouldn't be worth it to pay someone like him if your need is a defensive defenseman)
