I think Muzzin is most applicable here.

But RHD also return more in trade market (see, Jones, Risto, Savard) if they aren't returning a RD.
So Ryan Ellis didn't go for inflated price since he brought back Myers. Trouba didn't go for inflated price since Pionk was returned.

So question for me is does returning Holl limit the upside of that RHD-premium. I don't know the answer to that.

That would be an outrageous contract for Severson. If the Devils are even entertaining that right now they would be better off trading him now, even for a lighter package, and saving themselves.

Not saying it will age perfectly, but I think that is about what he will get. I'd love it if he signed for 4 years.
And if he asks for more, the likelihood of a trade likely increases.

It is his D+2 season and he has played about 10 min/game in only 10 games while healthy.

Podkolzin played regularly on their 3rd line. It’s not the same. And it’s not like Ufa sits their young players. Mukhamadulkin gets regular duty in their blueline.

Muzzin when traded, was coming off multiple 40+ points seasons, a Stanley cup win and played a hard physical game.

I mean I like Severson but I don't think he is quite what Muzzin was at the time. Frankly not even close.

Either way, we're debating a prospect value which is in the eye of the beholder at the end of the day. If your comparison of Severson is in the Muzzin range, you can think that but I certainly don't. He simply hasn't done enough to prove it IMO. The RHD premium is exaggerated. Its a factor for sure but not nearly as big as you make it out to be. Maybe there was once a time where there were significantly more good LHD then RHD but I'm not so sure its that apparent anymore.

Severson is, what, 2-3 years younger to Muzzin at the time...199 points at age 27 vs 213 points at age 30. And Muzzin played on much better teams.

I was trying to compare Brodie to Severson, and then have a terrible Brodie trade. Just saying that if there was a bunch of Brodie trades I’d probably get annoyed.

I’m with f50marco here, Muzzin is the guy that probably has more value. NHL fan mentions points, but Muzzin is a shutdown d, while Severson is somewhere in the middle. It would make sense that Severson would have more points.

Good question. Depends I guess what I am looking for. Muzzin is LHD, better around his own net, more physical, blocks shooting lanes better. Severson is RHD, better at moving puck and closing gaps.

Can make a case for both.
