Mikheyev out, Kessel in - is the opposite of what the Leafs need to do.

Not sure the Leafs trade makes much sense for the Coyotes. They are trading for someone who's a UFA at the end of the season, a goalie they don't need and who so far has been worse than the one they are trading away and a C prospect. There's not really any value there to get Arizona's promising young goalie, top rental asset and a very low 2nd round pick on top of it. The 2nd round pick alone is probably more valuable than the Leafs entire package.

Do the Coyotes see their competitive window opening next season? Miller is only valuable to a team that is a contender this season and next before his contract runs out and he gets a $3M raise.

Mikheyev for Kessel straight up is bad, but this trade in it's self is not: Vejmelka and a second would make this worth it. That said, unless the coyotes plan on extending Mikheyev it makes no sense to have him in here anyway. So keeping mikheyev in Toronto, and moving the second round pick going to Arizona would make this actually a nice trade for both teams.

I understand that. But as of right now, Arizona owns that pick. In the trade for Dvorak the first we gave to them is top 10 protected, so if Habs pick is in the top 10, Arizona gets Carolinas pick

Lots of really weird deals here. Can't see Florida going for their deal, that's too much to give up for any team. Meanwhile the Montreal deal seems awkward for Arizona. They don't really need Hoffman, and Poehling is kind of a weak asset. Chiarot is going to a contender, not the Coyotes. Overall light return for what Arizona would be looking for. There's also no reason for the Coyotes to be in on Miller, and that's an exorbitant price for him anyway.

I think that Habs wouldn't want to do that trade. They probably want to be selling players for picks. They're the worst team in the league.
