Why the hell would the Blues even consider moving a guy like Barbashev considering how he's broken out this year???

It's a hypothetical scenario. Love Barby and wouldn't trade him, but if we want a Chychrun type player we're going to have to trade an eye for an eye.

It's not hard, it would cost a 2022 1st, Bolduc/Neighbours (I would prefer Bolduc), Perunovich, and Kostin. And then the Blues would have to trade Scandella for cap space.

Rather hold onto Kostin, he's solid depth piece for a playoff run rn. Scotty, Hofer, Bolduc, 1st.

No we're not trading solid roster players. They want futures, Barbashev has 2 years on his contract, as good as he is, he's not the kind of piece Arizona is looking for in a deal anyway.

Shooting a ridiculous 26% and still a liability on defense. I love the guy and love that he’s unlocked his creativity and play-making side, but selling high on him would be a smart thing to do.

Barbie is solid on the defensive side, not sure what you are seeing.

Kostin has been overpassed on the depth chart, Brown has taken his roster spot imo and Neighbours will overtake him as well. It would be good for him to get a fresh start

Bad positioning, lots of turnovers, nothing especially high-end, all contributing to some of the worst 5v5 defensive numbers four years running. Great Pker though, that does count for something. Like the player though, just not a good idea to bet on this continuing when the bloated team shooting%s (especially on the PP) come back to earth.

the idea of even wanting Chychrun is insanity. He's not good at all. And not valuable enough to even remotely give up core pieces for him.

Yes and we can move him in the off season maybe. For a playoff run though, he's a solid depth piece to keep around.

He beats the hello out of Scandella or Mikkola playing 18+ minutes a night. Mikkola would be perfect on the 3rd pair and can obvious play up the lineup if needed and continue to develop. Hell it's worth considering trading a 1st or 2nd round pick to rid us of Scandella's additional two years after this season. We can't/won't have the depth we have this year on a continuous basis. Defense (especially left side) is an area of weakness that needs to be addressed. Best way to do that would be trading Scotty P or an expendable forward (i.e. a player like Barby who would attract attention). Right now Barby is killing it and you could sell high. I'd be disappointed to see him go, but you're rolling the dice he can keep playing to this level (I sure hope he does), but then if he continues you'll have Barby, Kyrou, Thomas and potentially Sunny D to extend in two years. Can't afford them all....

No way in hell anyone is paying essentially 4 1st round picks in your scenario here. A 1st rounder, legit prospect (Bolduc/Neighbours/Peunovhich), Scandella (cap reasons) and an additional lower level prospect (Kostin type) should be the expected return. Package something like that any way you want and I can't imagine AZ getting much more...

no he really doesn't 4PaBLOXPYtszgAAAAASUVORK5CYII.png?width=1140&height=939

To say that's worth Barbashev a 1st and more is completely false to the normal eye maybe, but this is the average numbers he's had over 3 years. That's not much of an upgrade from Mikkola, maybe from Scandella, but not worth as much as you want us to fork out for a 3/4 D.

It's honestly one of the dumber ideas. You aren't even giving Scott Perunovich a solid chance. Barbashev is one of the best offensive productions on the team he just had a break out season and you want to trade him for a 2nd Pairing defenseman who can't play offense worth a crap, and defense is just above average. That's completely dumb. I'm sorry I guess agree to disagree, but Chychrun is the most overrated defenseman right now.
