Better RD. Plus Vladar is our backup and 100% isn't available. Sorry but this won't cut it.

I am not saying the proposed trade is fair, I'm sure there will be both Leafs and Flames fans that get angry.

What would the cost be? Especially if Gaudreau (and I guess Monahan too though he's dropped off) leaves there could be major changes. Not to say that those changes would have to include someone like Andersson, but I think he could be moved for the right price. And I think he really fits our long term outlook once Muzzin is too old/gone from Toronto

Rielly - Brodie
Sandin - Andersson (6ft 1, 214lbs)
Dermott - Liljegren/Niemela

Calgary is not remotely selling, let alone core pieces. Look elsewhere

fair, yea I don't think I've put together the correct final package either. Maybe it'd have to be centered around Liljegren instead?

Is Liljegren a current upgrade on Rasmus? We are contending and won't be trading our current top pairing dman for a downgrade and picks

A back up goalie and starting RHD on nice contract certainly costs more than what you offered. But Leafs have no cap, cause one reason is Ritchie and Mrzarek can't be traded especially at that price

I’m not saying he’s worth Matthews, but we’re not moving him unless we get Matthews coming the other way lol. Playoff teams don’t trade their best defenseman, especially when they shoot right and are on an incredible contract. And given our cap situation, we can’t afford to move a good, young backup who is signed for another year at league min. Wolf likely won’t be ready to step in next year.

Fair. I did expect that I'd need to add considerably, but maybe even so I've underestimated Rasmus. And I did anticipate Wolf coming up next year so again maybe just a product of not really watching the Flames very much

Both of the Cgy guys are their future. And Rasmus is a big part of today. You need to look at teams that are 12-16 in their conferences to get those types of upgrades.(more so the D man)

Flames are competing, no point them selling which weakens them and strengthens another cup contender albeit different conference.

If you need a top 4 dman for this year you should look at Klingberg, he would fit Toronto's playstyle well and is a clear upgrade to the top 4 over Holl. Yesterdays game was pretty evident that playing without Muzzin hurts them a lot. I think if he had a better partner in the top 4 Toronto would be way more lethal. Your 1st and Robertson can probably be a good base package for him at 50% + another piece

I was just thinking Andersson and Monahan for Matthews might do it for the Flames.

Just for reference on Andersson, I’m not sure if you’re subscribed to the Athletic, but in Dom’s model, Andersson had the 8th highest GSVA among all D in the entire league at the quarter mark. He’s been elite this year at both ends (especially defensively), and while he won’t get the gawdy point totals despite being PP1 (like a poor man’s McAvoy), he’s obviously on a killer deal. He isn’t a guy that you slap on your 2nd pair, he’s the reason we allowed Brodie to walk, and is probably better than Rielly too lol

Klingberg is having a rough season and is not a shutdown D. If you ask me Muzzin is the one that needs to be replaced. But he won't be moved till the off season if it is even possible.

I'm not sure why keafs fans arbitrarily pick a player they like from a contending team and assume they are available.

I dont think Toronto needs a shutdown dman and you probably aren't going to find an affordable one on the market. Klingberg is a puck moving dman that is playing in a very defensive, heavy forecheck
style system

I dont agree with Muzzin being the issue though, he is not a guy to carry a pair yet that is what he's being tasked with, he has always been a complimentary player that makes his partner better.

Doubt it on rielly but yea I can recognize he'd be our 2nd best D. Rielly's nearly a point per game since he signed his new deal and looks considerably improved defensively. But fair

long term outlook i agree Muzzin will be out soon. Get a younger RHD Muzzin-style player to pair with Sandin using his cap

His cap will go to Campbell, Lilly Sandin and the 4-5 players we need to sign to fill our roster.
