It’s pretty laughable how much they have honestly

I think it’s something that probably benefits them in the long run. They space out their picks better and gain probably 10-15 spots, then get a bonafide 40 goal scorer and re-sign him long term. They’ll have top 3 picks which they’ll use on centers the next 2 years, while hayton continues to develop into a middle 6 two way center. Keller and debrincat could be a lot of fun to watch

Chicago isn't going to agree to that. Schmaltz and Chychrun together alone won't get Debrincat out of Chicago and I say that not because the value isn't there but because there is just too much chemistry and potential fallout for Chicago to move Debrincat. It's going to take a massive overpay that all the players, coaches, staff, and fans in Chicago would say..."sucks but couldn't pass that deal up". In other words, on paper today, the acquiring team putting together a trade that would pry away Debrincat will get burned hard in value.

Wouldn't mind getting out of Schmaltz's contract, but I don't like the idea of doing it with Chychrun. I think we need to maximize the return for him and that means only including him in a deal. Just don't see the point and I'm not really a fan of this deal.

That’s fair, that’s generally how I feel about chychrun as well. I think both Arizona and Chicago would like to come out big winners on their respective players, so a trade like this would solve some needs between frequent trade partners. I don’t see it happening, but I liked the trade both ways in theory

And teams that are positioned to compete in the next year or two, are going to have to trade a major young asset or two plus picks to acquire either player. You don't acquire guys like this without a perceived overpayment today that has a decent chance of backfiring 4 or 5 years later when evaluating it. People need to realize when you are talking about the hottest players under 25 years old, there is not such trade that isn't going to be an overpayment on paper (in today's value) to acquire them. Teams are not paying for just the production they've show today, they are paying for their projected peak production at age 27 - 29 years old
