Detroit is not a trade partner. What we'd be willing to give, Chicago shouldn't accept and we sure as hell aren't giving a package even CLOSE to what you have listed. It's fine for Chicago to shoot for the moon if they trade him, but look elsewhere.

Ok Edmonton has McDavid and Draisaitl arguably the 2 best players in the world. Currently they aren't in the playoffs and haven't made it past the 1st round since the 2016-17 season. Does DeBrincat immediately make Detroit a contender? Would McDavid immediately make Detroit a contender? The answer to both is no because in today's NHL one person can't carry a team. Besides the only time I've seen 1 player carry a team to the finals was Hasek in 1998-99 but Buffalo lost to Dallas 4 - 2.

Given the other young players on your roster and Cossa (who I didn't include in the trade) you could realistically be a top ten team in the coming years with CAP space which is key. Edmonton handcuffed themselves with bad cap moves and no capable goalies. It's not a for sure thing, but if you have the chance to make that trade for McDavid you take it ten times out of ten

People overvalue first round picks, especially if they end up in the back half of the draft. It all comes down to timing and if the Wings are ready to move into win now mode

That's not even a comparable deal. Defenceman are more valuable than wingers. Right handed defence especially. There's absolutely no chance this is even the asking price from Chicago for DeBrincat.

Yes, I would be surprised if Yzerman went completely against his stated approach and decided to make a reckless resource management trade when Detroit is not in win-now mode. Very surprised. Luckily, Yzerman is methodical and calculated, so he will not be reckless.
