Cant be Khusnutdinov. Too valuable of a prospect. I don’t think MN should be trading futures, but if they were to pursue G, I think it’s one of [O Rourke, Hunt, maaaaybe Beckman or obviously anyone lesser, Pillar, Bankier, etc].

It'd have to be at least one big future - I waffled between Khusnutdinov and a Hunt/O'Rourke... hoping it would be one of those defensemen instead, for sure. I figure they'd be ok giving up the 1st because they can trade Fiala in the summer for another one.

Yeah I think if you want Giroux, it’s roughly a 1st and a B type prospect. But IMO, MIN absolutely should not include Khust for a rental. I’d really rather they didn’t go get a rental, but if it has to happen, Marats in my list of untouchables.

And that's exactly why I think acquiring Giroux is a bad idea. We need all the ELC players we can get and while Giroux would be great there's no way we can keep him past this year. If we trade Fiala in the offseason to recoup assets spent on Giroux then we're essentially just offloading Fiala for nothing long-term.

I think I'm in a minority amongst Wild fans but I really don't like the idea of acquiring a rental for a 1st + a good prospect. The Hanzal trade probably ruined that idea forever for me...

I hear you about Hanzal, that stung bad. Giroux is a whole other level (and temperament) of player though. I do think it is more likely that Guerin does not make this kind of rental move, but if they really want to go for the cup this spring I think this kind of trade has to be looked at.

You are absolutely right, he's a way better player than Hanzal. I just don't think Giroux pushes us over the edge to being a cup winner. We definitely could use a good center, I'd just rather have that center for more than a few months if we used futures acquired one.

I like this trade for both teams. To get Giroux there had to be multiple high picks or a good prospect

Don't think this is worth it for the Wild. If your primary goal is to find an upgrade on Gaudreau, you can do it for a lot cheaper than a 1st and Marat. We need those pieces to navigate the dead cap in years three and four.

Chuck Fletcher wouldn’t target Marat. He’s already experienced the agony of waiting for a Russian prospect who just signed an extension with his KHL team. He’d likely go after one of the D prospects since Philly is thin in that area.
