1.) why would the pens trade MP?
2.) why would they trade him for such little return after the year he’s having?
3.) if the pens are retaining on Zucker, they would definitely expect back better than a 6th. Otherwise they won’t trade him.

From the Wings perspective, we'd take that trade, but we would not be willing to pay more than that. With that said, from an unbiased perspective, I think Pittsburgh shouldn't make that deal, as I think they lose that trade as is.

Summary - Value is what it would take for Detroit to be in on MP, but it's not a good deal for Pittsburgh.

Who the heck is going to play on Malkin's wings if you let Kappy go? He is one of the few wingers that has had good chemistry with Malkin over the last few years.

The problem is that we have to dump one of Math or Petts and that Math contract is pretty much untradeable

I think it is a pretty big risk for any org to pay him more than $3.5m @ 3/4 years based off of one season

1) you trade MP because that stupid Math contract is untradeable (I guess you could also trade Dumo) and you need that $4-5m in cap space or else you probably losing 2 of ERod, Heinen, ZAR, or Carter. This is part of the JR legacy where we don't have any decent prospects to call up at min cap hits, except POJ.
2) perhaps we can get a 2nd for him from someone without any salary coming back but I don't see a ton of fit anywhere
3) Zucker is averaging 0.4 points a game over the last 2 seasons, playing top 6 min, and has been hurt a ton. Even at $3.5m ($2m retained) he is a complete cap dump.

The Penguins desperately need the cap space unless Malkin is willing to take a discount down to like $5m/year.

Right... the value here is right for Detroit to make the trade (a 3rd), but Pittsburgh would have to be ok with selling MP low to shed cap. I've seen other ACGMs where they try to get better value for MP, and it's just not a fit. Detroit just flat out isn't making that trade unless Pittsburgh sells low, so I think you're value listed here is spot on for what it would take to move him to Detroit specifically.

Detroit will take either one for a 3rd or even both of them for a 2nd if you're that deperate. They both fit well in the Detroit rebuild timeline. There are players available in the offseason though so you'll have to sell cheap.

He’s been knocked off his wing twice this week. There’s no doubt that they’ve had good chemistry in the past but he seems a step behind Malkin right now and that’s saying something. I’d say try erod with geno and play Kap with carter right now and see what happens. His performance the rest of this season will probably tell us what’s going to happen with him in the off szn

1.) you don’t need to trade any of the defenseman for cap space. The pens have like 35 million in cap space next year. All of those people are replaceable. If they trade one it is probably Dumo as he is older and least term.
2.) if there is no fit elsewhere, then why trade him?
3.) no he isn’t lol. Not at 3 million cap hit.
