I honestly don't get how people don't see that Klingberg is the furthest thing from a fit in Toronto. He's Tyson Barrie 2.0 which didn't work cause he'd be relegated to the 2nd PP unit (maybe - Sandin is likely the guy there) and not get the ice time he needs to produce. He's horrendous defensively 5v5 so he doesn't fit that need at all. & they're especially not giving up Robertson + 1st + a useful NHL dman for him. Klingberg and Holl would have the same role on the Leafs so why give up the rest?

That being said, as a Stars fan what's your opinion on this idea:

I did respond to your trade idea (which was decent tbh) in your post

I kinda think Klingberg will eventually make his way to Leafs first PP. He's excellent in those situations, and I'd argue he's much better than Barrie. Closer to Rielly really, but not as defensively responsible.

I agree that the fit might not be the best possible, but I'd argue adding Klingberg would make this team better, and offensively deeper as latest playoffs for the Leafs have seriously taken a hit by injuries towards their top3 D-men, in particularly with Muzzin.

I honestly don't see the fit for Klingberg at all in Toronto. You say he's excellent on the PP but he wouldn't get any time in Toronto on it. Rielly already has the 1st unit locked down and he's not being moved off it, and Sandin has been a great fit on the 2nd unit. The Leafs currently have the top PP in the league so I don't think they're primary ads will be for a PP specialist defenceman like Klingberg, it just doesn't make sense.

As for the injury situation (which is bound to happen cause Muzzin is fragile every playoffs), Klingberg doesn't really fit that either. When Muzzin goes down, Toronto needs a defensive reliable replacement and Klingberg is the furthest thing from that. Add in the fact that he'll be looking at at least $6.5M - $7M as a free agent and it makes him a pure rental, just doesn't seem like a fit at all unless the price was extremely low (which it obviously won't be)

You broke down every point very well here and this is exactly how I feel about adding Klingberg to the Leafs. Bad fit generally and even worse if injuries are taken into account.

Perhaps there just isn't the type of D available that the Leafs need for a playoff run at this deadline.

The issue isn't going to be fixed with adding a defenceman at the deadline - 1 guy isn't going to impact the team that much. That's not the problem. The problem is that there's no accountability with the stars and being responsible defensively and that's on the e coaching staff and management. You don't continuously blow 3 goal leads (not just this stretch but over the years) and think that 1 defenceman is gonna fix that l. It won't.

Yep, that too. I still am not convinced Keefe is the right coach for this team. Largely, you are right, the lapses in defense are on the players, particularly the forwards and not having the details figured out.

I wonder if Dubas has thought of just rolling with what he has and send the message about being better internally.
