Its interesting on paper but those contracts just cant be given out by the Avs. 6 years at 7m on Trocheck would hurt the avs....right now they have 19m in cap space and 13 guys signed when Mack Newhook and Byram all need contracts. They cant be reckless with term this offseason.

cant give Bura and Trocheck contracts like that

I can see Bura taking a discount, like 5 x 5.25. What about Trochek?

I do think they prioritize Nuke over Bura. The avs front office is smart, they can find the next bura in a trade.

Trochek is just too massive of deal, 7m aav hurts. cant see them doing that. I would rather they just give Stastny a big 1 year deal to come home and be the platoon 2c/3c with newhook than giving out a big money deal.

I think they just are smarter with aav and term...Nuke at 4x4. Copp at 5x5 goes a long way in cap flexibility.

I like bura, a lot, hes an amazing talent but cant be giving 6x6 to a guy who would be the 6th best player on the team and isnt a Centre. ITs tough to justify.

@coga16 is dead on. Nichushkin gets prioritized before Burakovsky for a number of reasons. Trochek just doesn’t happen, with the Avs contract situation and how well he has played 3C Newhook is the 2C next year unless Kadri takes a very friendly team deal. I also think the organization loves Ranta and sees him as a middle 6 wing. Sakic hasn’t ever been a big spender on outside UFA’s either.

I dont think Newook is the 2C full time next year if kadri walks, they still transition him into it, but a winger/c combo would be ideal to play in the middle 6 on a shorter term. Just tossed out the Stastny name bc you can use him in that role in the middle 6 and not over commit with term. Thats why I like Copp too, he wont cost high aav but you have a LW who can play C if need be.

One thing I have thought they might try to do is play Landeskog with him, but somebody like Copp might fill that role too, I don’t think Stastny ever ends up back in COL as long as Sakic is GM because of what happened supposedly when he signed in STL. But Newhook they have been giving him more responsibility as the season goes on ie how he is getting PK time.

I dunno times have changed and Sakic doesn’t seem like a guy who holds bad blood, he has had no problem bringing back old players in nemeth and soderberg,

If the interest is mutual I could see them making it work, staz is still close with Landy ej and such, so who knows,

I wouldn’t so it’s a no, highly unlikely but not never

Maybe, but the story I heard was walnuts said yeah I’ll let you match any offer and he didn’t bring it to them. Maybe it was a Roy issue, Nemeth and Soderberg were different but I see what you are saying.
