Imo Leddy is worth a 3rd maybe. Bumped up to a 2nd to retain salary… idk if anyone would offer more for him

You're crazy... A puck moving, top pairing LHD is only a 3rd? He's worth a 2nd easily without retention and a mid to late 1st with retention. We will also very likely be re-signing Namestikov.

Who is paying a 1st for Leddy? What has Leddy done since joining the Wings to make his value a 2nd? I’m honestly interested. Who is paying a 2nd for a 5.5m “top pairing” LSD ? That’s a ton of cap that most contenders don’t have available. Puck moving guy w 11 points? I guess we should move Nick Jensen for a 1st at the deadline huh?

He's on an expiring contract and is an ideal rental, which increases his value. He has a wealth of playoff experience as well and you seem to forget that Yzerman will be the one negotiating his trade... Hell, the Wings might opt to just re-sign Leddy too, he's been a good fit here and is a good fit in the room. You can never have too much defensive depth, that's been proven a million times at the deadline... hell, David freaking Savard pulled a 1st with retention last year...

Leddy is a puck moving defenseman. He plays top minutes and had 31 points last season and 12 this season. You're not getting him retained for a second. Especially with Yzerman as the GM.

Yeah … values differ and it depends on the market. Leddy with 50% easily gets a 2nd. Not sure why that makes me “crazy” lol.

That's fair. Don't get me wrong, it's hard to gauge other team's wants without being biased. I think you're just down playing Leddy's experience and ability.

Imo it would be impossible to trade Leddy without retaining any $$$. 5.5m is a lot of money. His value is a 2nd imo. Now if teams go full on crazy and start to outbid each other it’s not impossible for him to get a 2nd + a good prospect OR a playoffs team 1st (16-32). I’m not really downplaying Leddy abilities.. I wouldn’t trade for him if I didn’t think he was good. cap hit is why I feel he’s worth a 3rd w no retention.

If Leddy's contract was 2.75, he's worth a first easily. Don't forget you're also adding in Namestnikov while dumping Schultz's contract. Detroit has Seider and Hronek as their top 2 RHD, while this trade would make Danny DeKeyser their top LHD dman.

There's a lot of negatives for the Wings.

It was meant more in a "mannnn, you crazyyy" sense and not the "YOU'RE INSANE, BLAGH" sense... I just don't see Yzerman settling for less than he gave up to get him, is all and with retention, it just makes him even more valuable to a team really pushing to make a run... Also, remember, his 5.5m caphit is HEAVILY prorated by the time of the deadline, so a team would really need about 1.5m-ish in capspace to absorb his contract at the deadline straight up... Also, I could see Detroit taking another expiring contract back to offset, which is similar to retention, but from a business sense is a better move, because you have a roster player to finish the season with, rather than just giving money to another team for an asset

Schultz has positive value still. I had both players being worth a 2nd. AGAIN it’s not crazy to think Leddy 50% could get a 1st BUT that’s if the market allows it. Capitals got Dillon for a 2nd and 3rd… Jensen for a 2nd and Bowey just basing this off what they normally pay for that type of player

That makes sense. It’ll be interesting to see what actually happens. Capitals are rumored to be all in on Kane now…. Not Patrick

Skill wise, that'd be a huge addition for pennies on the dollar, personality wise and what it does to the locker room... Not sure I'd roll those dice, but maybe he can contain the crazy long enough for one deep playoff run?

Yeah but he’s now a “puck moving” defenseman. Lol
