I don't think Subban is the right fit in Toronto.

Dumba could work, it just depends on Minnesota taking a package similar to what you proposed above.

I don't want subban just a vack up plan in case we can't make any other moves.

You're right they can't afford him but you're missing one key element... risto was traded in the offseason. My whole point is why would minny move him now when they're in the playoff picture unless it's for a top six center? We may look into dumba in the offseason but I don't see Minnesota's motivation to move him now.

I think the motivation for Minnesota is all that dead cap they about to slap them in the face, I'd add a tad if necessary to get the deal done.

What do you think of bringing Seattle to retain on the road I suggested?

Would Toronto trade Kerfoot for two players rights (one just signed) a cap dump and a 3rd that may turn in to a first? Probably not or at least not now but maybe in the offseason and probably no cap dump.

1000% Seattle uses their 3 retention slots this deadline. They missed out on acquiring picks in their expansion draft so it only makes sense for Francis to use them to his advantage this deadline to build for Seattle's future.

To me me Kerfoot should fetch a 1st rounder.
We may have no choice but to move him in the offseason to resign Campbell

Exactly, in the offseason but we wouldn't move him at the deadline unless it's for a top 4 rhd or an upgrade at the position like Miller otherwise it makes us a worse team going in to the playoffs.

I'm all for getting Dumba but I can't see minny moving him at the deadline unless they get a top 6 center. They'll revisit moving him in the offseason if they don't get a top 6 center and at that point if they would accept this package I'd be all in.

New idea, hinges on Dumba being moved for futures still

3 way trade with Minnesota and Seattle

To Minnesota
1st rounder
2nd rounder conditional on Leafs reaching conference finals (changes to 4th rounder if failure)
Rights to Rindell
Rights to Miller

To Seattle
Kerfoot
Robertson
Holl
SDA
Rights Abrussive
Rights to Kokkonen

To Toronto
Dumba (3 million retained by Seattle)
Eberle (2.75 million retained by Seattle)

This makes more sense all around assuming Minny is willing to move Dumba for futures as you stated.

I'd also like to target Gio from Seattle too. I'm thinking a 2nd, Dermott & a prospect (I was thinking SDA but you already have him in the trade) maybe Holmberg, Anderson, Steeves or someone along those lines for Gio 50% retained, then send a 4th or 5th for double retention?

Giordano even at 50% retention seems too rich to add.
I wouldnt mind if he was at 1 million or so.

Dudes cap hit is 6 million plus at full cap hit.

We move a 4th or 5th for double retention, but if Muzzin is out until the playoffs we would have the room.

I've been talking to Minny fans,
The price tag of Dumba is similar to Ristolainen trade.

I think I have added a tad more as it should be.
Wild can't extend Dumba, and they need to extend Fiala
Dumba is the guy they move

With all due respect, you are wrong. Our gm values dumba way more than fiala. That dates back to a while including when Ryan Suter was released

I'm back on the Severson train and want Soucy too

https://theleafsnation.com/2022/02/17/ranking-defensive-trade-targets-for-the-leafs/

I'd pass on Severson, he'll cost too much. I'd rather Braun and or Schenn personally.

I dont want rentals, those guys 3rd pair only.
We need a 2nd pair.

I'd also say those two are not better than our current guys.

Who cares about next year, if we can't make it out of the first round changes will be made and if we have a good playoff run then it is worth it.

Yes we need a top 4 d but we are also going to need depth

Is soucy really a top 4 d? Not sure he's worth that package. Also why we giving the devils that are they double retaining?

Soucy has great advanced stats and he has size.
Exactly what we need.

I forget to mention in trade #2 we get Severson.

Recently I have been Lehkonen, I think he can be good add.
Gritty defensive forward who is clutch goal scorer
Thoughts?

Yeah, like Soucy too. I know he's got great numbers and would like to have him on the leafs (thought he would have came with Gio also thought we'd get Jarnkrok).

He'd be a great get but we need someone else.

There's the something else lol. I'd still pass on Severson.

I'd pass on Lenkonen personally but he wouldn't be a bad pickup.

What do you and @onex think of the gio trade?

I don't mind the trade. The trade was good value but everyone just has to remember that the Leafs are not getting the Norris Trophy winner Gio, they are getting an older Gio and based on that, manage your expectations.

Gio was not my first choice but there just isn't many D on the market and the Leafs don't have tons and tons of assets to trade away.

I want the Leafs to get Arthiri Lekenon(spelling?) from Montreal. He would be a good 2-way player the Leafs badly need. What do you think of him?

Gio trade, dont mind it.
I dont think we overpaid but I wanted a guy with term and not a rental.

Your thoughts?
