Old guys retire

Created by: Bluetomorrow83
Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 9, 2022
Published: Jan. 23, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If old guys retire and LTIR. Oilers best case scenario but very unlikely. Extra cap from Keith recapture ~3.4M.

Smith can't stay healthy goes to LTIR. Keith misses his son too much retires choosing family over 1.5M.

Oilers have 4 main positions that need to be addressed G, #3C, top 6 F and top 4 D.

UFAs:
Campbell- Holland gives out the "Markstrom" contract he refused to before Oilers now have a starting G
Lyubushkin- Solid defensive RD that can likely play on 2nd pairing if needed
Lazar- Another attempt at getting decent #4C

Arizona trade:
Oilers need to solidify Dcore before becoming a contender. Kassian added for cap reasons but package still follows the 2 former 1sts and upcoming 1st ask.

Seattle trade:
Kraken have a need for puck moving PP Dman Barrie can fit that role for 2 years. Oilers recoup a pick and bottom 6 winger.

Washington trade:
Caps have McMichael pushing into #3C role. Caps could run Eller as #4C or save for cap space so they can resign both young goalies. Oilers get veteran #3C who is good on both sides of the ice.

New York trade:
With the Oilers trading for Chychrun the path for Broberg is blocked so trading him for shoot first winger (Tippett from FL could be another option)

Markstrom had a lot longer of a history of a starter than Campbell does. Campbell won't get anywhere near that contract

Bringing in Lybushkin is like bringing in Manning after he broke McD's collarbone

lol I wouldn't say they are even in the same realm. Yes, Lyubushkin shoved McD into the post trying to prevent a goal but that was nothing like the Manning saga.

This is where the Toronto media works against the Leafs. A Player is half way decent and they pump the value up. campbell is getting paid everyone else in his locker room did.
